Full Job Description
Lead a team that plays a critical role in delivering exceptional patient care. UPMC St. Margaret is seeking an experienced Respiratory Care Manager to provide operational and clinical leadership for our Respiratory Care department. This full-time leadership opportunity offers primarily daylight hours, Monday through Friday, with flexible 8-hour shifts based on department needs. The ideal candidate is a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with strong leadership experience and a passion for developing teams, driving quality outcomes, and supporting patient-centered care. Experience with a Sleep Lab is preferred. This role includes 24/7 accountability for urgent departmental needs, meaning flexibility to provide leadership support during evenings, weekends, or holidays when necessary.   • Promote interdisciplinary partnerships and consultation of hospital staff and health care team through participation in committees and related activities to ensure appropriate care and services for patients and their families.
  • Plan and implement a system to motivate staff development, including effective clinical orientation and continuing evaluation, including models of participative governance, for the cardiopulmonary technicians.
  • Recommend or implement appropriate changes in patient care.
  • Assist in developing the department budget and design ongoing strategies to ensure adherence to budget.
  • Develop, recommend and administer policies, procedures and standards of care for the respiratory department within the Patient Care Division.
  • Facilitate CQI/QA&I programs in assigned areas.
  • Follow mandatory reporting procedures for any incident or serious event that did affect or potentially could have affected the clinical care of any patient.
  • Develop and manage a system to ensure appropriate staffing.
  • Ensure adequate scheduling.
  • Serve as a clinical resource for respiratory services.
  • Serve as a technical expert for respiratory care and provide consultation to members of the health car team on respiratory techniques and issues.
  • Serve as a clinical resources for respiratory services.
  • Develop and coach staff and ensure ongoing review of compliance with practice standards, appropriate counseling, corrective action and formal annual review.
  • Manage assigned clinical operations within the respiratory department.
  • Design a system to support customer satisfaction and guest relations to include patients, families and hospital staff.
  • Develop, recommend and administer policies, procedures and standards of care for the respiratory department.
  • Devise a system to monitor and evaluate patients' progress.
  • Assist in interviewing and hiring staff.
Qualifications:
  • Graduate of a Co ARC (Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care) approved Respiratory program required. AMA-approved BS degree in Respiratory Therapy
    • or BS in related
    • or relevant field of study 4 years of progressively responsible clinical and supervisory experience required.
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania required for employees practicing in Pennsylvania.
  • Basic Life Support or Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation required
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) required
  • Respiratory therapists who receive their RRT credential from the NBRC after July 1, 2002 are required to maintain certification under the NBRC guidelines. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire. Employees practicing in Maryland: Respiratory Therapist License required.
