About the RoleWe are looking for a Regulatory Counsel to join our legal and compliance team. This is a high-impact role for a lawyer who wants to be at the center of a fast-growing fintech-advising on product development, supporting our compliance management system (CMS), and helping navigate an evolving regulatory landscape. You will work directly with our General Counsel and partner cross-functionally with Product, Marketing, and Operations.
What You'll Do- Serve as a primary legal advisor on product counseling matters, providing practical regulatory guidance on new product features, partnerships, and go-to-market strategies
- Advise on consumer financial protection laws, including UDAAP, fair lending, state licensing requirements (lending, money transmission), and other applicable federal and state regulations
- Support all aspects of the compliance management system (CMS), including policies and procedures, training, monitoring, and corrective action
- Review and approve customer-facing materials and marketing collateral for regulatory accuracy and required disclosures
- Assist with third-party and vendor risk management, including review of vendor contracts and oversight programs
- Support licensing portfolio management, including tracking deadlines, coordinating renewals, and preparing regulatory filings
- Assist with internal and external audits and regulatory examinations, including document preparation and response coordination
- Liaise with our Partner Bank on compliance-related matters and communicate effectively with Partner Bank stakeholders
- Monitor regulatory developments and translate legal changes into actionable guidance for internal teams
What We're Looking For- J.D. and active bar admission in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- 3+ years of regulatory legal experience, including time at a law firm, regulatory agency, financial institution, or in-house at a fintech or financial services company
- Substantive knowledge of consumer financial protection laws and regulations (e.g., TILA, EFTA, ECOA, UDAAP, state lending laws)
- Experience advising on product or business initiatives in a regulated environment
- Familiarity with compliance management systems and their core components
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex legal concepts into clear, practical guidance
- Proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Bonus: Experience with state money transmission or lending licensing, partner bank relationships, or third-party risk management frameworks
Additional DetailsLocation: While we are based in NYC, we are also open to remote candidates for this role who are based in US only. If you are based in NYC, you'll be expected to be in the office 3- Days a week.
Compensation: The annual base salary for this role is $160,000 and $180,000. The base pay for this role is determined using many factors, such as education, skills and experience and is reflective of Clair Series stage and size. Base pay is only one part of Clair's competitive total compensation package which includes equity, benefits and additional perks. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
