Description:

Medical/Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) - Full TimeShift Details
  • 3x12-hour shifts, day/night variable (scheduled as needed)
  • Every other weekend (EOW)
  • Holiday rotation required
  • 2 on-call shifts per 4-week period
  • 36 hours per week
  • Contract end date must fall in February or March - no exceptions
Position Overview
  • The Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high-quality, compassionate care to patients and families
  • Assesses patient need, develops a plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, provides direct care, evaluates patient progress, and coordinates care delivery throughout the patient's episode
  • Develops specialized skill in the care of patients admitted for medical conditions
  • Provides care to adult, adolescent, and geriatric populations with medical conditions
  • Accountable for patient and family education to assist in understanding self-care beyond hospitalization, including lifestyle changes to support health and healing
  • Expected to promote comfort and provide emotional support in a Healing Environment
Required Licenses & Certifications
  • NYS RN Licensure (required)

Required Experience
  • Minimum 2 years of Medical/Surgical experience as a Registered Nurse

  • Asks questions to evaluate retention of key points in the self-care process
  • Provides tools and information to assist the patient's family after discharge
  • Documents education provided and the patient and family response to that education

  • Systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice
  • Uses the results of quality improvement activities to initiate changes in individual nursing practice and care delivery
  • Engages in self-evaluation of practice, identifying strengths and areas where professional development would be beneficial
