Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will oversee regional trade compliance, ensuring adherence to import and export control, sanctions, and customs regulations, develop and implement policies and procedures, manage risks and audits, provide training and guidance to teams, and lead Local Trade Compliance Officers while ensuring effective use of compliance systems.

The work model for the role is: Remote (Eastern or Central time zone) Travel to Auburn Hills, MI will be required.

You will be mainly accountable for:

  • Serve as the main point of contact for local trade authorities and business management, ensuring compliance with import requirements, export control, sanctions, and customs regulations across all local operations.
  • Develop, maintain, and implement trade compliance policies, procedures, and standards, including product classification, import regulations, export license applications, and SAP GTS compliance processes.
  • Monitor, manage, and mitigate trade compliance risks, conduct local trade reviews and audits, manage permits and authorizations, and report compliance updates to stakeholders.
  • Implement trade compliance training programs, raise awareness, and provide guidance to local teams and management, maintaining internal resources such as SharePoint and trade handbooks.
  • Lead and develop Local Trade Compliance Officers (LTCOs), ensure effective use of trade compliance systems, and deliver on budget, targets, and performance objectives.

Qualifications for the role:

  • Bachelor's degree with at least 10 years of experience with trade, business processes, supply chain, risk management, and logistics. GTS, ACE, tariff impact, FTA duty agreements and import and export for North America.
  • Strong knowledge of import compliance, export control, sanctions, and customs rules and regulations, with willingness to develop further expertise.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization and with external authorities.
  • Experience in training and advising teams on trade compliance topics.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to monitor and mitigate compliance risks. Team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and the local language.
  • Leadership and people development experience, with the ability to guide and motivate Local Trade Compliance Officers (LTCOs).
  • Willingness to travel as required and learn technical details of products, software, and technologies relevant to the business.
