Full Job Description
This position reports to:
Chapter Lead

In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to ABB's success with technology, software, product, and system development. Each day, you will identify and implement innovative solutions to relevant problems. You will also showcase your expertise by providing ideas and by being able to work both independently and as a part of a Research & Development (R&D) team.

The work model for the role is: Onsite

We are looking to appoint an R&D Engineer in Agile TEAM "Sub distribution Transfer switch/FAST Transfer switch" to support the ELSP (Smart Power) business at our site in Bloomfield, CT. While working collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment, the engineer should demonstrate experience in Application skill, design, quality, safety, compliance, and new product implementation.

Essential Functions:
  • The Engineer will be responsible for the Application knowledge & interpretation, design, development, and manufacturing implementation of engineering programs that meet business standards and program / product requirements
  • Being part of customer application discussion and able to connect the dots to understand and transform the customer needs into actionable engineering an design activities to make it happen.
  • Design, develop, analyze, and document product designs which meet the functional, cost, reliability, manufacturability, and safety requirements of the customer or market
  • Support engineering change orders (ECNs/ICNs) to ensure smooth implementation into production
  • Create and maintain technical documentation for all design work and present material for technical review including but not limited to tolerance loops, drawings, bill of materials, product cost, problem and action lists, risk management, and failure root cause analysis reviews
  • Execute designs with solid modeling software (PTC Creo / Windchill) to create models, assemblies, detailed drawings, and BOMs for designs which may include plastic, stamped metal, and electrically conductive parts
  • Lead and support new product introduction (NPI) activities within a manufacturing environment, ensuring smooth transition from design to production.
  • Ensure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned task consistent with engineering policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Mechanical Engineering with a
  • 2+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, technical design role and preferred with Application knowledge & its interpretation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze technical issues and implement effective solutions quickly
  • Self-motivated and proactive, capable of managing multiple priorities and tasks with minimal supervision
  • Experience in mechanical design, including 3D modeling and 2D drawing creation in PTC Creo (or similar CAD tools)
  • Experience with Sheet Metal design for enclosures or busbar systems using PTC Creo and Windchill PLM systems.

Time off

ABB provides 11 paid holidays. Vacation is provided based on years of service for hourly and non-exempt positions. Salaried exempt positions are provided vacation under a permissive time away policy.

While base salary is determined by things such as the successful applicant's qualifications and experience, this position is expected to pay between $83,300 and $133,280 annually.
