POSITION SUMMARYThe Software Quality Engineer owns end-to-end quality assurance for Amphenol Network Solutions' next-generation intelligent infrastructure products. This position designs, executes, and automates test strategies across embedded firmware and web-based user interfaces for smart power panels, DC distribution systems, and smart optical interconnect devices. The role bridges hardware behavior and software interfaces to ensure mission-critical products meet the reliability, security, and zero-downtime expectations of tier-1 telecom and data center customers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe statements in this job description are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by incumbents. The list is not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required by all incumbents. Incumbents may perform other duties as assigned.
- Design, build, and maintain automated test setups for firmware deployed on smart power distribution panels and optical routing platforms.
- Validate embedded communication protocols, including SNMP, Modbus, REST APIs, TCP/IP, CAN, MQTT, and HTTPS, for accurate telemetry, remote monitoring, and control.
- Conduct hardware-in-the-loop testing, edge-case fault insertion, power-cycle resilience testing, and firmware regression cycles.
- Build and maintain automated UI test frameworks using tools such as Selenium, Cypress, or Playwright for embedded web interfaces and network-management software.
- Validate real-time data synchronization, telemetry visualization, alert notifications, API behavior, browser compatibility, and user-permission hierarchies.
- Lead the transition from manual testing to scalable automation pipelines integrated with CI/CD workflows.
- Create and maintain test strategies, test plans, test cases, traceability records, and validation reports for major software and firmware releases.
- Partner with firmware, hardware, and web engineering teams to identify, document, reproduce, and resolve defects early in the development cycle.
- Perform root cause analysis on field issues and internal failures using logic analyzers, serial debuggers, digital multimeters, and packet-capture tools such as Wireshark.
- Support compliance of software and firmware releases with applicable enterprise security, quality, and telecom-industry requirements, and perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field required; equivalent practical experience may be considered.
- Three to five or more years of software quality engineering experience validating products that combine embedded firmware and web-based user interfaces preferred
- Hands-on experience testing embedded C/C++ firmware or Linux-based embedded edge controllers and working with serial and network communication protocols.
- Experience in a lab environment using power supplies, digital multimeters, logic analyzers, serial debuggers, or packet sniffers.
- Preferred experience in DC power distribution, telecom rack infrastructure, fiber-optic monitoring, industrial IoT systems, CI/CD tools, or cybersecurity testing for network devices.
- Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered.
LANGUAGE AND PEOPLE SKILLS Ability to communicate technical defects, test results, risks, and recommendations clearly to electrical hardware engineers, firmware developers, frontend developers, leadership, and other stakeholders. Must collaborate effectively across disciplines, write clear technical documentation, manage competing priorities, and apply sound judgment when diagnosing whether failures originate in firmware logic, electrical behavior, network performance, or frontend rendering.
COMPUTER SKILLSProficiency in Python or another test-automation language such as C# or JavaScript/TypeScript; hands-on experience with Cypress, Selenium, or Playwright; and experience with API testing tools such as Postman or REST-assured. Familiarity with embedded C/C++, Linux-based embedded systems, Wireshark, SNMP, Modbus, MQTT, HTTPS, TCP/IP, CAN, REST APIs, and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps is required or strongly preferred based on project needs.
PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDSThis position requires extended periods of sitting, computer use, keyboarding, focused visual review, analytical problem-solving, and detailed technical documentation. The employee must be able to move within an engineering lab, connect and disconnect test equipment and devices, and occasionally lift or carry equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. The role requires sustained attention to detail, sound judgment, prioritization, and the ability to troubleshoot complex hardware-software interactions.
WORK ENVIRONMENTWork is performed in a professional office, engineering lab, and office work environment. Regular onsite work in Liberty Lake, Washington, is required for hardware-in-the-loop testing, use of specialized lab equipment, product troubleshooting, and cross-functional collaboration. The position involves close computer work and exposure to powered electronic equipment in a controlled lab setting. Occasional travel may be required.
COMPENSATION Pay Range: $80,000-$95,000/year
