We have a current opening for a Purchasing & Supply Chain Director located in our Dallas, TX office.

Role Summary

The Purchasing Director is responsible for developing and executing the company's procurement & supply chain strategy to support electrical construction operations across all business units. This role oversees strategic sourcing, vendor management, purchasing operations, inventory optimization, and material planning to ensure projects receive quality materials on time and at the best overall value. The Purchasing Director partners closely with Operations, Estimating, Project Management, Warehousing, and Executive Leadership to improve profitability, reduce risk, and strengthen supplier relationships.

Success in the position is achieved through the following duties & responsibilities:

Procurement Strategy & Leadership:
  • Develop and execute the company's purchasing strategy aligned with business growth objectives.
  • Establish procurement standards, policies, and governance across the organization.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to increase purchasing efficiency and reduce operational costs.
  • Develop purchasing KPIs and executive dashboards to measure organizational performance.

Strategic Sourcing & Supplier Management
  • Develop strategic sourcing programs for equipment, commodities, and construction materials.
  • Negotiate national purchasing agreements with manufacturers and distributors.
  • Build & maintain preferred supplier programs that maximize pricing, service, and availability.
  • Evaluate supplier performance through formal scorecards measuring quality, delivery, responsiveness, pricing, and financial stability.
  • Identify secondary sourcing strategies to mitigate supply chain disruptions.

Project Procurement
  • Partner with Estimating during preconstruction to develop procurement strategies.
  • Support Project Managers with procurement planning and long-lead equipment management.
  • Coordinate purchasing activities across multiple concurrent construction projects.
  • Resolve critical material shortages and supplier issues impacting project schedules.

Inventory & Warehouse Management
  • Partner with warehouse operations to optimize inventory levels and stocking strategies.
  • Improve inventory turns while maintaining appropriate service levels.
  • Reduce excess, obsolete, and slow-moving inventory.
  • Implement just-in-time purchasing where operationally appropriate.

Technology & Process Improvement
  • Lead implementation and optimization of procurement technologies, ERP, MRP, PM systems, supplier portals, and purchasing automation.
  • Improve purchasing workflows through electronic approvals, vendor integrations, and data analytics.
  • Utilize spend analysis and reporting tools to identify cost savings opportunities.
  • Drive digital transformation initiatives within procurement operations.

Financial Management
  • Develop annual purchasing budgets and savings initiatives.
  • Monitor commodity pricing trends and market conditions affecting material costs.
  • Partner with Finance to improve working capital through purchasing strategies and supplier payment terms.
  • Evaluate total cost of ownership and return on investment for procurement initiatives.

Documentation & Governance
  • Maintain architecture diagrams, SOPs, policies, and technical documentation.
  • Establish infrastructure standards, configuration baselines, and governance frameworks.
  • Maintain IT onboarding documentation and environment data.

Vendor Management
  • Establish strategic relationships with manufacturers, distributors, logistics providers, and key service vendors.
  • Negotiate and administer contracts including pricing agreements, rebates, service level agreements (SLAs), master service agreements (MSAs), and confidentiality agreements (NDAs).
  • Partner with Legal and Finance to manage contract compliance and commercial risk.
  • Conduct regular business reviews with key suppliers to drive continuous improvement.

Requirements

Required Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 10+ years of procurement or supply chain experience with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience within electrical contracting, mechanical contracting, commercial construction, industrial construction, or EPC organizations.
  • Demonstrated success negotiating strategic supplier agreements and managing enterprise purchasing operations.
  • Strong understanding of electrical construction materials, procurement processes, and supply chain management.


Preferred
  • MBA or advanced business degree.
  • Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM), Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM), or equivalent certification.
  • Experience with MRP systems.
  • Experience with construction procurement platforms such as SubBase, or similar solutions.
  • Experience leading procurement transformation and digital modernization initiatives.
