The International Public Finance Group (IPF) within Fitch Ratings is responsible for assigning and maintaining international credit ratings on public entities and their debt issues. The group currently maintains more than 400 public ratings (and a number of private ratings) on local and regional governments, government-related and not-for-profit entities in Canada, Latin America, Europe, Africa and Asia. The group consists of approximately 50 analysts based in 17 offices globally, including 8 offices in Europe and 4 in Latin America. The role will focus on credit analysis for Canadian local and regional governments, government-related and not-for-profit entities. Canada is a strategic growth priority for Fitch, with the candidate expected to support the expansion of Fitch's presence there. Opportunities for analytical coverage assignments for entities in Europe and Latin America are also likely. Additionally, the candidate should be comfortable actively engaging with analysts in other groups, including sovereigns, project finance, corporates, financial institutions and others on credit-relevant topics.

How You'll Make an Impact:

  • Writing and publishing comprehensive rating reports on individual issuers.
  • Preparing for and participating in management meetings with the senior fiscal leadership of rated entities.
  • Participating in credit rating committees for local and regional governments and public entities in both your own region and other countries.
  • Publishing sector-specific research and insightful commentaries.
  • Responding to external queries from investors, bankers and other fixed income market participants and the media together with more senior analysts.
  • Always complying with Fitch policies and procedures and with external regulators' requirements for credit rating agencies.
  • Traveling when necessary for meetings, conferences and other activities.
  • Other duties as required.

You May be a Good Fit if:

  • You are comfortable working independently in an international environment.
  • You can participate in or lead team projects on research, ratings or operational matters to meet near-term deadlines and annual goals.
  • You manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • You are able to sustain a moderate degree of travel, mostly domestically.
  • You have the ability to assess situations and support your assessment with excellent analytical, writing and communication skills.
  • You have proficient knowledge of standard business and database software.

What Would Make You Stand Out:
  • Interest and experience in both the finance and policy worlds, including familiarity with economic data, tax policy, budgetary and financial reports, governmental organization, interest rates, debt markets and accounting.
  • Fluency in both English and French, both verbal and written, is highly desirable. Knowledge of Spanish, Portuguese or other languages beneficial.
  • Advanced education in Finance, Economics, Political Science, Policy and/or Data Science

Why Choose Fitch:
