Job DescriptionESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manages critical electric transmission capital project(s) and special projects that may be outside the scope of the traditional regulated utility space, including support of the development and execution of High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) or submarine cable scopes.
- Responsible for assembling, coordinating, and providing clear work direction to cross-functional project teams composed of both internal and external resources.
- Serves as the accountable leader for select non-standard, highly complex, or high-risk capital projects where scope, execution approach, or regulatory considerations extend beyond established precedent.
- Leads technical teams in the development of proposals for competitive projects and/or the performance of due diligence for prospective development opportunities.
- Exercises independent judgment in evaluating cost, schedule, risk, constructability, regulatory, and reputational trade-offs, and provides clear, defensible recommendations to executive leadership.
- Acts as a trusted escalation point for systemic project risks or execution challenges and resolves related issues with enterprise-level impact.
- Establishes the benchmark for project management excellence through mentorship, coaching, and informal oversight of other project managers.
- Leads project teams to successfully deliver projects on time, within scope, and within authorized budget.
- Facilitates development of detailed baseline project schedules to identify the critical path and key milestones.
- Facilitates project meetings (status, coordination, scheduling, lessons learned, etc.), as required, with the project team and stakeholders.
- Monitors and controls project costs through preparation of monthly cash flow projections, comparison of actual and committed costs to estimates; and identification of variances requiring corrective action to ensure costs remain within authorized amounts.
- Prepares, reviews and approves contractor purchase orders, change orders and invoices.
- Communicates project status, issues and risks to leadership and stakeholders in a clear, timely and effective manner.
- Works collaboratively with personnel across all areas of the company to ensure achievement of project objectives.
- Completes other special projects and related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor of Science degree (engineering or technical field preferred) with a minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in project and/or construction management in the electric utility industry or relevant, equivalent experience and/or education; Transmission electric system capital project experience strongly preferred.
OR - Minimum of Twelve (12) years of progressively responsible experience in project and/or construction management in electric utility construction or relevant, equivalent experience and/or education; Transmission electric system capital project experience strongly preferred.
Basic Qualifications- Sound technical understanding of underground and/or submarine cable systems.
- Expert in developing project schedules and managing scope, schedule and cost across complex projects.
- Expert in identifying alternative solutions and in performing risk assessments.
- Possesses exceptional ability to communicate clearly and effectively to all levels of leadership, including executive management.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate and negotiate with vendors and third parties to ensure project deadlines are met.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications.
- Proficient in the use of Primavera, Microsoft Project or equivalent scheduling software applications.
- Possesses exceptional verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated exceptional ability to lead, direct and motivate cross-functional teams.
- Ability to work on multiple tasks and/or projects simultaneously.
- Required to travel to project and vendor sites on a recurring basis.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as in a team-based environment.
