Project Leader 2 ( $ 96,600 - $158,000)

The successful applicant will provide project management and coordination support for international safeguards, nuclear forensics and in vitro bioassay programs. The project leader 2 will be responsible for interfacing with technical leads to coordinate and deconflict work, set priorities and schedule and track execution of deliverables for approximately $45M of technical programs ranging from small, short duration efforts driven by single primary investigators to large, ongoing programs executed by 20-30 staff. The project leader 2 will function as a member of the Trace Analytical Chemistry team's project management functional area to ensure work scope and budgets are appropriately estimated and that resources are available to execute work. The project leader 2 will be responsible for overseeing large, complex equipment purchases and ensuring delivery and installation within the period of performance; interfacing with external vendors; securing and managing contracts for equipment warranties and service agreements; and meeting LANL requirements for capital purchases. In addition, the Project Leader 2 will be responsible for tracking costs, commitments and accruals to ensure costs and revenue are balanced at fiscal year closing.

Project Leader 3 ($117,200 - $195,400)

The Project Leader 3 level will include all job requirements of the Project Leader 2 as well as the ability to coordinate and oversee programmatic input into several capital construction projects focused on expanding capabilities to meet program growth. This effort will involve coordinating with the technical organizations, infrastructure planning and construction organizations; estimating cost and timeline for installation of programmatic equipment; and overseeing execution upon completion of the facility construction. The project Leader 3 will interface with direct line management, customers and supporting Laboratory organizations to independently execute work.

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Working knowledge of and experience in managing moderately large/complex technical projects
  • Demonstration of ability to successfully complete projects within approved scope, schedule, and budget baseline, including experience in developing project plans, work breakdown structures, and work packages; managing technical baselines; and documenting baseline reports and change control actions.
  • Experience interfacing with customers and negotiating deliverables and deadlines
  • Demonstrated experience with system development focused on continuous process improvement
  • Demonstrated experience managing or coordinating large and complex equipment procurements, including vendor interactions, procurement documentation, delivery coordination, and installation activities.
  • Ability to work independently with initiative
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Computer skills including use of Microsoft office products
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to obtain a Q clearance, which normally requires US citizenship

Education/Experience level 2

Position requires a bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 5 years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Minimum Job Requirements in addition to the Project Leader 2 requirements
  • Advanced knowledge of and experience in managing moderately large/complex technical projects
  • Demonstrated experience working with external vendors
  • Demonstrated experience integrating complex work with other priorities and commitments
  • Demonstrated experience leading and coordinating multiple complex capital construction or infrastructure projects in a highly regulated, technical, research, industrial, or government environment.
  • Proven ability to independently interface and collaborate with project managers, engineering organizations, construction managers, facility operations, maintenance organizations, procurement personnel, subcontractors, and senior management.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direct oversight

Work Location : The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance, and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
