The Project Reliability Engineer acts as a key contributor in the plant's loss elimination and project management. The Project Reliability Engineer is in charge of managing projects, from concept to construction, and commissioning, to improve the overall reliability of the operation. This role identifies, designs and implements improvements focused on increased equipment availability. The Plant Project Reliability Engineer works closely with Operations, Shipping, Maintenance staff and hourly personnel to provide technical support and improve the overall reliability of the operation. This role will proactively lead, seek, and implement solutions to acute equipment failures, and report any issues that can impact the environment or the safety of the employees.
Essential Functions- Identify and manage asset reliability risks that could adversely affect plant/business operations
- Utilize engineering knowledge, expertise and techniques to:
- Prevent failure modes
- Reduce the likelihood and frequency of failures
- Identify and correct the causes of failures that do occur
- Participate in developing plant project needs and 5 year Capital and Plant Expense Project Plans
- Develop all engineering, drawings and equipment specs required to accurately support project development including RFQ's, cost estimates, justifications / benefits and AFE preparation
- Manage all Project Phases after approval including Construction / Contractor Management, Commissioning and Operations Handover
- Ensure all projects are executed safely and meet Safety Compliance requirements resulting in Zero Accidents or Serious Incidents
- Ensure all Operating and Maintenance Procedures are prepared prior to handover to the plant
- Control and keep projects under budget and on time; prepare forecasts and reports on spending and physical completion to plan
- Ensure city, county, state, and federal regulations relating to projects are met at all times
- Manage Engineering and Project records and Documentation of the plant including storage and retrieval
- Lead reliability analysis (Paretos, FMEA, etc.) to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness
- Work with Plant Management to develop and execute specific plans including schedules, resource requirements and costs that will address opportunities to improve the reliability of operations
- Track reliability KPIs and propose course corrections to be on target and continuously improve
- Write Management of Change (MOC) documents for equipment changes
- Provide technical support to plant personnel
- Comprehend and respond accordingly to environmental safety procedures and mandates
- Other duties as assigned by manager
Required Education and Experience- B.S.M.E. with 7+ years of experience in a chemical plant environment
- Influence leadership skills within groups
- Demonstrated working knowledge of major equipment: Boilers, steam turbines, air condensers, cooling towers, pumps, heat exchangers, fired dryers, bag filters, conveyors, bucket elevators, air blowers, fans and refractory lined equipment
- Working knowledge of fixed equipment inspection techniques and compliance standards
- Demonstrated experience setting up mechanical integrity programs
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and with documented reports
- Proficiency working with Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions using root cause techniques
- Hands-on experience for some of the following: design engineering, estimating, purchasing, supervision of consulting engineers and construction management
- Ability to develop "cost of reliability" analysis to drive improvement projects and activities
- Experience with the identification/application of PdM technologies and data analysis
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and with documented reports
Preferred Education and Experience- Experience with the identification/application of PdM technologies and data analysis
- Certified PMP
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and with documented reports
- Proven results using Planning & Scheduling and 5S to improve maintenance workflow and execution
- Turnaround experience
