Project Engineer

Remote or Piedmont, SD Office Based

Primary Function:

The Project Engineer supports the successful execution of GenPro's solar EPC projects by assisting with engineering coordination, design review, and technical support activities throughout preconstruction and construction. This role contributes to translating project intent into safe, buildable, and code-compliant designs by working under the direction of senior engineering leadership and in close collaboration with Project Management, Construction, and external partners.

The Project Engineer provides hands-on support for engineering tasks and deliverables, helping ensure designs align with safety standards, OSHA requirements, electrical codes, and constructability best practices. Throughout the project lifecycle, this role assists in maintaining design continuity, supporting critical path activities, and addressing technical issues as they arise to help projects progress toward successful energization.

Working alongside internal teams and external consultants, vendors, utilities, and regulatory stakeholders, the Project Engineer helps align engineering decisions with project cost, schedule, safety, and performance objectives, while developing practical field-focused solutions and strengthening technical execution across GenPro's portfolio.

Reporting Relationship: Director of Engineering

Pay Grade Range: $80,000 to $120,000 annual salary plus bonus opportunity (depending on experience)

Essential Job Functions:

  • Manage Engineering & Design: Oversee all engineering and design efforts throughout project phases, ensuring compliance and timely delivery.
  • Technical Drawing Review: Create and review drawings to maintain project timelines and accuracy.
  • Support Construction: Provide technical assistance during construction to ensure designs are implemented effectively.
  • Decision Making: Evaluate trade-offs related to cost, schedule, and performance to meet project objectives.
  • Resolve Technical Issues: Lead RFI resolutions, review submittals, and support weekly construction calls.
  • Risk Management: Maintain the project risk register and communicate risks to stakeholders.
  • Equipment & Design Review: Approve equipment drawings, ensure constructability, and review designs for code compliance.
  • Vendor & Consultant Management: Build and manage relationships with vendors and consultants.


Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related discipline preferred.


Required Qualifications:

  • 3-4+ years of experience in solar project engineering, EPC construction, or related technical role
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Detail-oriented with a proactive and collaborative mindset.
  • Software/tools expertise with the following, or comparable: AutoCad, PVSyst, Excel, Smartsheets, ProCore, SiteTracker, etc.


Certifications/Credentials:

  • NABCEP certification a plus.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
