Position Summary

Odyssey is seeking a Project Engineer, Biomechanics, to support the Clinical Investigation Department (CID) and the CTRG (Combat Trauma Related Group) at the Navy Medical Center, Portsmouth (NMCP) Virginia. The mission of the command is to support the national interests of the United States by providing professional education and development, providing quality patient care, being responsive and ready for deployment, and taking care of each other as shipmates. NMCP conducts biomedical research in general surgery, psychology, otolaryngology, pediatrics, nursing research, orthopedics, women’s health, and emergency medicine, which are relevant to the Graduate Medical Education Program.

Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Acquire an overview of PI initiated research and test methods and best practices before employing and further developing new test concepts and set-ups. 
  • Assist with coordinating biomechanical testing activities at the NMCP Bio skills lab.
  • Utilize/Manage design controls within the NMCP Bio skills lab.
  • Communicate with clinical PI to gather input for the design evaluation of new clinical research projects.
  • Coordinate research activities of assigned, IRB, IACUC, Exempt or Non-Human Subjects Research (NHSR)study protocol.
  • Coordinate QA/QI scholarly projects.
  • Develop test methods and fixtures for prototype as well as for design verification and validation testing/steadily strive for state-of-the-art test and analysis methods as well as test equipment, subject to final Government approval.
  • Assist with developing verification and validation protocols and technical reports, subject to final Government approval.
  • Report data on research studies in accordance with IRB/IACUC-approved protocols and applicable regulations with final government approval.
  • Utilize knowledge of the surgical procedure to develop innovative solutions to solve/satisfy the PI needs.
  • Assist with maintaining detailed documentation of the research study as required by the protocol and the PI’s File Binder/Regulatory Binder.
  • Assist with preparing reports and other correspondence regarding the research protocol for IACUC, IRB, granting agencies, industry sponsors and other organizations as required by regulation and/or the protocol, subject to final Government approval.

Qualifications

Minimum Required Qualifications

Citizenship: Must be a US citizen.

Clearance: Ability to Obtain Secret.

Education: Master’s Degree in biomedical engineering field  and or related field.

Years of Experience:  Two years of research related experience.

Certifications: N/A.
