Responsibilities

  • Ensure adherence to safety procedures and regulations at Hanwha Philly Shipyard.
  • Plan and oversee the safe lifting, installation, and movement of large structures.
  • Calculate the center of gravity and develop plans for lifting mechanisms.
  • Interface with production, engineering, and departmental teams to resolve issues.
  • Conduct design analysis and support calculations for process improvement initiatives.
  • Be flexible and proactive in supporting specific projects and assignments as directed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Ensure that all Hanwha Philly Shipyard safety procedures, rules, and regulations are followed and met.
  • Possess math and problem-solving skills to identify solution, ability to project manage a task to completion.
  • Required to contribute time and effort, as required, to ensure success in terms of meeting.
  • Will report to the production engineering manager and interface with planners, engineers, other departmental personnel with production engineering related issues.
  • Directly accountable for the planning of safe lifting, supporting, installing and movement of all blocks, grand block, and other structures.

• Determine the center of gravity and develop a padeye arrangement plan ensuring there is sufficient backup structure to safely lift and install the item.
• Must be flexible and willing to undertake duties as assigned by the production engineering manager for specific assignments such as support of launching, docking, and outfitting equipment installation.
• Will be informed of priorities and allowed to schedule work as necessary to complete required tasks within guidance provided by the Supervisor.
• Will perform design analysis and support calculations for various projects identified by yard wide process improvement initiatives, build strategy requirements, and installation related items.
• Perform other related and assigned tasks as required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTY

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPEREIENCE
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering or Construction Engineering.

E. l. T. certificate desirable.
• Four to six (4 - 6) years' experience in an engineering role with strong background in both mechanical and structural engineering. Four (4) years' experience in job specific discipline.
• Familiarity with structural steel design is required. Applicants with experience in the engineering of moving and installing/or lifting large objects in an industrial or construction environment with the engineering of gear used to perform these lifts is a plus.
  • Proficiency with MS Office software.
  • Experience with engineering software such as Auto-Cad, experience with Aveva Marine is a plus.
  • Familiarity with structural engineering software such as MSC-Patran or similar software.
  • Proficiency with metric system preferred.
  • Knowledge/experience concerning modern shipbuilding practices is a plus.
  • International experience or familiarity with Asian Shipbuilding Standards is a plus.
  • Be able to familiarize yourself with shipyard terminology and facilities equipment, such as

crane and transporters.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Environmental exposures are similar to those found in most heavy industrial settings and may include noise, heat, cold, vibration, dust, fumes, and smoke. Work may be carried on indoors or outdoors, and may involve exposure to inclement weather conditions.
