Full Job Description
Orano TN is seeking a Design Project Engineer to support the design, procurement, fabrication, integration and qualification of systems and components associated with spent nuclear fuel storage systems. The position will be based in Columbia, MD, with some occasional travel expected to the Kernersville, NC office or customer sites. This qualified individual will be responsible for the following tasks related to NUHOMS® Dry Shielded Canisters, NUHOMS® onsite transfer casks, a nd TN metal storage casks and transport packages: 34 Performs standard engineering assignments, typically in areas of design, development, analysis, evaluation, testing, preparation of specifications, execution of field tasks and resolution of field problems. 34 Receives assistance and instructions on unusual or more complex features and possible solutions, as needed. 34 Ensures compliance with government, organization and customer engineering standards. 34 May independently evaluate, select and apply standard techniques, procedures, and criteria using judgement in making minor adaptations and modifications. 34 Perform design work using supplied data and markups utilizing theoretical and practical engineering knowledge. 34 This position requires developing proficiency with SolidWorks software. 34 Prepare drawings, layouts and sketches under moderate supervision using CAD workstations and appropriate design criteria and technical manuals. 34 Work closely with fabrication engineers to ensure and optimize fabricability of designs, and to help resolve fabrication issues. 34 Has a working understanding of the engineering design process. 34 Has a working understanding of welding processes, including non-destructive examinations. 34 Ensure conformance to applicable standards and codes as well as company procedures and policies. 34 Apply advanced techniques in CAD and standard design applications utilizing CAD equipment. 34 Apply Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing to designs and drawings. 34 Works on special projects, as directed. Additional job responsibilities will include the following: 34 Design of non-safety related equipment. 34 Visit nuclear facilities to determine concerns regarding new equipment designs and gain information needed to facilitate those designs. 34 Support Operations during field operation of storage, transfer and transport systems. 34 Support proposal preparation. 34 Support Licensing activities. Pay Range: $90,000-$120,000 per year Requirements All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for this opportunity. Candidates who exceed minimum qualifications may be considered for a higher level position: 34 BS in Engineering or Engineering Technology, plus 2-3 years related experience. An advanced degree (MS or MBA) may be substituted for 1-2 years experience. In applicable states a PE license will be accepted in lieu of a 4 year engineering degree. 34 Demonstrated background where quick thinking and problem solving plays a critical role 34 Excellent organization, planning and priority setting skills 34 Ability to communicate well with vendors, customer and regulatory authority. The following requirements are desired and will be used to differentiate all candidates who apply for this position: 34 Master's Degree in Engineering 34 A working knowledge of ASME Section III, Division 1 34 Experience working at a commercial nuclear facility in system or design engineering 34 Experience as a Project Engineer overseeing design projects 34 Demonstrated experience designing items, structures, or components for fabricability 34 Experience working in a metal fabrication environment 34 A working knowledge of AWS D1.1 and D1.6 welding code 34 Familiarity of NRC regulatory requirements 34 A working knowledge of NQA-1 requirements 34 Experience performing structural, thermal, shielding, or criticality analysis
