  • Review and critique CAD design files from design firms and obtain manufacturer feedback
  • Create prototypes using external fabricators and in-house methods
  • Prepare product designs for quoting, including bills of materials and functional requirements
  • Meet with design firms to provide insights into material selection and manufacturing processes

Full Job Description

Position: Product Engineer

Department: Engineering – OXO

Work Location: New York, NY, Hybrid (work 3 days onsite)

Hybrid Schedule: At Helen of Troy, we embrace a flexible hybrid work model designed to support collaboration and productivity. For roles eligible for hybrid work, our standard schedule includes in-office collaboration from Tuesday through Thursday, with the option to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays. Any updates to this model will be communicated in advance. Please note that hybrid eligibility and schedules may vary based on business needs and manager expectations. 

What you will be doing:

  • Evaluating and directing functional and technical aspects of new products in collaboration with internal and external design firms

  • Cooperating with manufacturing partners in the production of new products in a wide range of materials and manufacturing methods

  • Working with manufacturers and quality team to improve the quality of existing products

  • Reviewing and critiquing designs received as CAD files from design firms and soliciting feedback from manufacturers

  • Creating prototype samples by ordering from external fabricators or in-house fabrication methods

  • Preparing designs for quoting by preparing bills of materials, functional/quality requirements, and key manufacturing questions

  • Collaborating with product managers to review and compare quotes from multiple manufacturers

  • Meeting with design firms to provide insight on design decisions as they relate to material selection, manufacturing methods, assembly methods, and cost

  • Reviewing and critiquing pre-production samples from manufacturers

  • Ensuring that new products meet standards of performance and quality by designing product testing procedures and conducting testing

  • Approving product for mass production when acceptable quality is achieved.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in mechanical engineering, product engineering, or electromechanical engineering

  • 2+ years of professional experience in related field.

  • Knowledge of either Creo or SolidWorks CAD software.

  • Knowledge of common consumer product manufacturing methods such as plastic injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, metal CNC machining, overmolding, and/or compression molding

  • General shop and prototyping skills such as measuring, cutting, drilling, gluing, sanding, etc.,

  • Software knowledge in Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to travel internationally to Asia(10%) as needed.

  • Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of common consumer product materials such as plastics, metals, silicone, and fasteners

  • Knowledge of common assembly/joining methods such as plastic snap design, overmolding, ultrasonic welding, and common metal components such as screws, pins, springs, etc.,

  • Basic understanding of electrical schematics/systems and ability to troubleshoot

In New York City, the standard base pay range for this role is $84,000.00 - $105,000.00 annually. This base pay range is specific to New York City and may not be applicable to other locations. Actual salaries will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to location, experience, skill level, and performance. The range listed is just one component of the total compensation package for employees.
