Full Job Description
About the role: The Product Development Engineer will partner directly with the VP of Product Development to define and build the strategic and technical framework for new electric propulsion products at magniX. This role is responsible for identifying opportunities to leverage magniX's existing intellectual property (IP), platform technology, and engineering assets across the current product portfolio (motors, batteries, inverters, power distribution, and software) to accelerate the development of new product lines and derivative offerings.

The Product Development Engineer will serve as the technical and strategic bridge between product strategy, engineering, and commercial requirements, ensuring new product concepts are grounded in a coherent, reusable architecture rather than one-off designs.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Partner with the VP of Product Development to establish a formal product architecture framework that governs how new products are conceived, scoped, and built from magniX's existing technology and IP base.
  • Conduct systematic reviews of magniX's current product portfolio (motors, inverters, batteries, control systems, and associated subsystems) to identify reusable IP, platform components, and design patterns applicable to future products.
  • Translate market and customer requirements into product concepts and architectural specifications that maximize commonality with existing platforms while meeting new performance, certification, and application requirements.
  • Develop and maintain a product roadmap architecture that maps how derivative products, power classes, and configurations extend from core platform IP.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Operations, Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, Program Management, and Commercial/Sales leadership to validate feasibility, cost, and manufacturability of proposed product architectures.
  • Establish and document design reuse standards, modularity guidelines, and interface control practices to support scalable, IP-efficient product development.
  • Support make/buy and build/adapt/create decisions for new product initiatives by assessing the technical and IP overlap with existing designs.
  • Present architectural recommendations and product framework proposals to executive leadership and, as required, to external stakeholders such as investors and strategic partners.
  • Contribute to intellectual property strategy in coordination with Engineering and legal/IP counsel, identifying opportunities to protect newly developed architectural innovations.
  • Collaborate with the Customer and Sales team to assist in defining early-stage Customer requirements, technical specifications, and program scope for new product initiatives prior to formal program launch.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 7+ years of experience in product development, systems engineering, or product architecture roles within aerospace, electric propulsion, automotive, or related highly regulated engineering industries.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong working knowledge of electric propulsion systems, power electronics, electric motors, or battery systems, with aerospace application experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience in certified aerospace product development (FAA Part 23/25/27/29, or equivalent).
  • Proven ability to translate ambiguous product and market requirements into structured technical frameworks and specifications.
  • Demonstrated experience developing platform-based or modular product architectures that support product family scalability and IP reuse.
  • Prior experience in a start-up or scale-up environment supporting rapid, IP-driven product expansion.

Location: Applicants must be willing and able to commute to magniX's location in Everett, Washington.

Compensation & Benefits

  • 100% company-paid premiums for medical, dental, and vision insurance (for employees & dependents).
  • 4 weeks paid vacation + 1-week annual end-of-year shutdown, sick time, and 11 paid holidays.
  • 401K retirement plan with industry leading 9.5% company contribution.
  • Company paid Life insurance, AD&D, Short-Term and Long-Term disability insurance
  • Catered lunches and quarterly company fun-day events!
