Scope of Position: The Process Engineer supports and improves optical system assembly and test processes across both the Molecular Cleanroom (MCR) and Class 10,000 cleanroom environments. This role provides hands-on technical support for production, process capability, new product introduction, and continuous improvement, while working closely with operations, development, quality, and commercial teams.
Day to Day Responsibilities:- Provide technical support for daily production needs and resolution of process upsets
- Own and drive manufacturing, process, and equipment issues to resolution
- Identify and lead process improvements to reduce cost, increase capacity, improve cycle time, reduce variability, and minimize scrap
- Lead new product introduction transfer activities into the production system
- Represent manufacturing during product development through informal and formal design reviews, including PDR and CDR participation
- Develop and maintain process documentation including flow charts, work instructions, process sheets, forms, and checklists
- Lead cross-functional projects related to process improvement, capacity expansion, cost reduction, and manufacturing readiness
- Collaborate with estimating teams to support quoting and manufacturability assessments for new products
- Collaborate with commercial, quality, and production teams to address customer questions, complaints, and product returns
- Assess manufacturing capability gaps and recommend process, tooling, equipment, or training improvements
- Lead manufacturing risk assessments and drive risk reduction activities
- Perform manufacturing tasks as needed in support of production and process validation activities
- Maintain housekeeping standards and support autonomous maintenance of work areas and equipment
- Demonstrate flexibility to support off-shift production needs when required
- Follow and promote safe work practices and cleanroom protocols
Required Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field
- 3-6 years of experience in manufacturing, process engineering, or technical process support
- Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and drive issues to closure
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience leading root cause investigations and process improvement activities
- Demonstrated ability to develop technical expertise and expand knowledge in new processes or technologies
- Ability to work effectively across operations, development, quality, and commercial teams
- Hands-on aptitude with precision assemblies, manufacturing equipment, and process troubleshooting
Preferred Qualifications:- Experience with optical assembly, test processes, or cleanroom manufacturing
- Experience supporting new product introduction and design transfer into manufacturing
- Familiarity with customer complaint response, returns, and CAPA processes
- Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, Green Belt, or other performance excellence tools
- Experience with risk assessments, PFMEA, control plans, SPC, DOE, or validation activities
- Experience with assembling close tolerance parts that may have unusual shapes or parameters.
Travel Requirements: < 5%. Typical travel includes special training/networking opportunities and potential customer and vendor visits.
Hours of work: Typical first shift production hours, M-F, 8am-5pm. Evening and weekend support as needed.
This position does not support immigration sponsorship. The range for this position is $84,932.00 - $116,782.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
