What role you will play on our team

We are seeking Chemical and/or Process Engineers to join us as a Process Control Applications Engineer for our manufacturing site in Nanticoke, ON.

The Process Control Applications Engineer is responsible for providing technical leadership through the sustainment and implementation of both base-level controls and advanced process control (APC) applications that are integral to the safe and reliable operation of the Nanticoke refinery.

What you will do

  • Provide technical leadership for advanced process control (APC) and real-time optimization (RTO) applications, ensuring alignment with operational and business objectives.
  • Design, implement, monitor, and sustain control strategies including PID tuning, multivariable control, model predictive control (MPC/DMC), and RTO solutions.
  • Analyze process and operational data to identify performance gaps, troubleshoot issues, and deliver data-driven improvement opportunities.
  • Lead and support plant testing, controller tuning, dynamic model development, commissioning, and optimization activities.
  • Monitor application performance and steward key performance indicators to maximize utilization, effectiveness, and business value.
  • Collaborate with operators, and both site-based and remote engineering teams to resolve operational concerns, drive application adoption, and maintain high-performance control systems.
  • Identify, evaluate, and implement continuous improvement opportunities consistent with engineering standards and industry best practices.
  • Lead or support small to medium-scale control system and optimization projects, coordinating scope, schedules, stakeholders, and deliverables.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, regulatory, and engineering requirements in all applications and project activities.
  • Support integration of control and optimization systems with plant information, planning, and scheduling systems to enhance decision-making and operational visibility.
  • Provide technical mentorship, share knowledge, and contribute to the development of process control and optimization capabilities across the organization.


About you

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher level of qualification in Chemical Engineering, or equivalent, as certified by an accredited/recognized institution
  • 3+ years of experience in refining and/or chemicals manufacturing roles
  • Demonstrated leadership and strong academic skills
  • Valid driver's license
  • Proficiency and comfort level working with computers, understanding programming concepts, and communicating these to others.

  • High degree of analytical and technical ability
  • Ability to communicate complex technical data clearly, tailored to intended audience
  • Strong attention to detail with handling high quantity and quality of work
  • Ability to effectively influence others without direct authority

  • Process design exposure
  • Experience with advanced control strategies/optimization software
  • Experience working with TDC 2000 / TDC 3000 / Experion control systems
