What you will be doing:

Builds out a new data engineering platform for Tangerine to enable business analytics and production AI and ML applications, in support of business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

  • Participates in the design and implementation of the Tangerine data engineering strategy and platform, advising senior leadership and executing on the vision with senior architects and the development team.
  • Collaborates with data scientists, data analysts, and software engineers to understand user requirements and inform the design and development of data engineering features.
  • Hands on development on highly complex initiatives.
  • Champions a data design pattern and architecture that supports Tangerine business needs and collaborates with senior architects on pipeline design to support our architectural vision.
  • Mentors technical leads and high-potential data engineers by providing stretch-goals and feedback through design and code reviews.
  • Remains delivery focused and help the team to resolve technical impediments.
  • Influences product roadmap by working closely with product team and by providing technical insights and suggestions.
  • Champions application security best practices and ensure security-by-design in data access and processing. Work closely with security architecture and security advisory committee to ensure continued adherence to directives and all security practices.
  • Advances our testing processes including unit, integration, functional, non-functional and security testing.
  • Keeps up with innovation in the field of data and AI, enabling advancements around cloud, agentic AI, and production ML workloads.
  • Champions a high-performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment.
  • Understands how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?
  • 12+ years of data engineering industry experience with a minimum of 8 years designing data platforms for large, complex enterprise applications.
  • Experience as a technical leader for large technology programs and initiatives
  • Knowledge of/or hands-on experience with data and data warehousing technologies
  • Experience shaping and communicating the design pattern to store, organize, process and prepare data for various business purposes
  • Experience building, architecting, designing, and implementing data pipelines to support multiple types of downstream needs, ranging from reporting and analytics to production ML inference pipelines and agentic workflows.
  • Experience designing and implementing public cloud-based applications on Google Cloud Platform and other cloud platforms (AWS, Azure)
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and knowledge of enhancing CI/CD pipelines.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills with the ability to build and foster relationships with business partners, project stakeholders, strategic technology partners and external vendors.
  • Commitment to maintaining a diversified set of skills through continued education and mentoring peers and junior and senior team members.
  • Ability to collaborate across team and organizational boundaries, build relationships, and achieve broader organizational goals.
  • Experience working with 3rd party vendors including defining SLOs, limitations, security assessments, etc. to achieve business goals.
