Job Description:GDIT is seeking a skilled
Principal Cloud Engineer with Database Expertise to support the design, implementation, optimization, and maintenance of cloud-based database systems across complex federal environments. In this role, you will leverage your expertise in cloud platforms, database technologies, automation, and security to ensure resilient, high-performance, highly available data services that meet mission-critical requirements.
MEANINGFUL WORK AND PERSONAL IMPACTAs a
Principal Cloud Engineer with Database Expertise, the work you'll do at GDIT will be impactful to the mission of our customers. You will play a crucial role in the following:
- Design, deploy, and administer database solutions across cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, and/or Google Cloud using native cloud database services (RDS, Aurora, Azure SQL, Cloud SQL, etc.).
- Perform configuration, performance tuning, backup/recovery, patching, replication, and monitoring of cloud-hosted databases.
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) templates (Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM) to automate database provisioning and configuration.
- Optimize query performance, indexing strategies, and storage usage for mission-critical applications.
- Implement, monitor, and maintain high availability and disaster recovery (HA/DR) solutions.
- Manage database security, encryption, IAM roles, auditing, and compliance in accordance with federal security standards (FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, etc.).
- Collaborate with application, cloud engineering, DevOps, and cybersecurity teams to design scalable and secure data architectures.
- Troubleshoot database incidents, conduct root cause analysis, and provide timely remediation across production and non-production environments.
- Support migration of legacy on-prem database systems to cloud-native or cloud-hosted platforms.
- Maintain documentation for system configurations, operational procedures, and data workflows.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEEDBring your technology expertise and drive for innovation to GDIT. The
Principal Cloud Engineer with Database Expertise must have:
Education: BA/BS or equivalent
Experience: 8+ years of relevant experience, with at least 5+ years of experience in Azure with a focus in databases
Required Skills:- Experience designing, deploying, and administering cloud database solutions
- Hands-on experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server, MongoDB, DynamoDB, etc.).
- Proficiency in scripting/automation (Python, Bash, PowerShell).
- Familiarity with CI/CD workflows and DevOps concepts.
- Experience with monitoring and logging tools (CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, ELK, Grafana, etc.).
- Strong understanding of database security, encryption, and compliance requirements.
- Ability to support critical systems in a fast-paced, mission-oriented environment.
- Demonstrated communication skills with the ability to present to stakeholders at all levels and explain technical concepts to individuals at varying skill levels

The likely salary range for this position is $142,792 - $189,750. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
