Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Post-Doctoral Associate in the Public Health Research Institute within the New Jersey Medical School (NJMS).
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Post-Doctoral Associate conducts studies of the mechanism of fungal pathogenesis and fungal vaccine research in the human fungal pathogen Cryptococcus neoformans. By applying molecular biology, biochemistry and Immunology, will aim to investigate the molecular basis of Cryptococcus-host interactions and characterize fungal antigen-mediated immune protection with a goal to develop novel antifungal vaccines. The Postdoctoral Associate will design and conduct highly specialized molecular research in the area of Cryptococcus pathogenesis and immunology under the direction of the Principal Investigator. Collecting data and preparing reports for peer- reviewed scientific publications and conference presentations, and contributes to the writing of grants.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Conducts research activities on projects to investigate the molecular mechanisms of Cryptococcus-host interactions, focusing on identification and characterization of antigens required for vaccine-mediated protection and fungal pathogenesis, independently or as assigned, followed by appropriate reports, recommendations and conclusions.
- Interfaces with internal and external collaborators on the research projects.
- Generates, compiles and presents statistical data with appropriate conclusions, recommendations, etc. pertinent to research activity.
- Assists with training new students and visitors in research area focused on Cryptococcus pathogenesis and fungal immunology.
- Oversees daily research lab operations within the Lab.
- Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Rutgers' regulations, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience - Ph.D. Degree or equivalent in a relevant science required.
Certifications/LicensesRequired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Experience with microbiology and be versed with molecular genetic and biochemical characterization of fungal pathogens and immune effectors.
Preferred Qualifications - Two (2) years of postdoctoral research experience, preferred.
- Fungal Biology, Biochemistry or Immunology background is preferred.
