OverviewThe Pharmacy Technician III operational functions of pharmacy technicians as required for the specific role of a pharmacy buyer. The pharmacy technician III independently performs a variety of technical pharmaceutical functions including the ordering and maintenance of inventory levels for medications and supplies within the pharmacy as well as other areas of the clinic. This position works closely with partner organizations and departments within the clinic to ensure that we meet the medication related needs of our patients.This position will work with stakeholders inside and outside of the pharmacy department to complete crucial and complex tasks relating to patient care, financial and billing practices, or regulatory compliance. This position will serve as backup for pharmacy technicians as needed for patient care and be responsible for other duties as assigned.
This is a 1.0 FTE (40 Hours) role that will work out of our South Lake Union Campus. This role will primarily be Monday thru Friday but will include periodic Holiday shifts dependent on clinical need.
Responsibilities
- Daily ordering and receiving, stocking of medications through multiple sources
- Working directly with manufacturers to maintain adequate supply during drug shortage
- Coordination with care team and management of patient specific inventory for pharmaceuticals
- Reconciling of all pharmaceutical purchases for bill pay approval weekly
- Maintain invoices and pharmacy purchasing records as required by state and federal law
- Processing of outdates and returns, handling recalled and defective medications and maintaining appropriate documentation
- Clinic floor stock ordering of pharmaceuticals for all clinic areas including community sites
- Generating reports for accounting to bill clinic budget and outside pharmacies for pharmaceutical purchases
- Functions and duties related to maintaining appropriate inventory levels including running and monitoring usage reports
- Participate in purchasing related meetings
- Train and educate staff on purchasing functions
- Assists in implementation of quality initiatives and improvements
- Provides education to other staff for protocol-specific processes
- Maintains separate supplies of returned IP from patients for trials that have this requirement
- Assists and participates in team and departmental planning with other pharmacy staff
- Other pharmacy related duties in accordance with regulations under Washington State Pharmacy Quality Assurance Commission
- Performs complex and unique duties within the pharmacy department
- Interpret, evaluate, and summarize information and datasets of varying sizes
- Communicate effectively and professionally with stakeholder inside and outside of pharmacy department
- Develop and maintain internal (within FHCC) and external relationships (such as vendors, payors, distributors)
- Work independently and within teams to complete tasks
- Documentation information or results in clear and concise ways
- Generate and present reports of tasks to Pharmacy Operations Manager or Director of Pharmacy
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Current Washington state pharmacy technician certification.
- 2 years pharmacy technician experience
- Maintaining excel sheets
- Familiar with the generic names of drugs along with their basic indication
- Proficient in Microsoft suite
- Ability to communicate verbally in person, on the phone, and in writing in a clear, concise and professional manner
- Attention to detail and accuracy documentation of information
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a dynamic work environment
- Ability to work effectively as a member of a team
- Experience with electronic medical records
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Previous experience in pharmacy purchasing
- Knowledge of computers, and pharmacy technology and automation systems
- Knowledge of the health care environment and electronic medical records
- Data Analytics
- Participate in professional pharmacy organizations
- Promote an image of service and goodwill to the patients, public, and hospital staff
- Perform other related tasks as required

As a condition of employment Fred Hutch conducts pre-employment drug testing for this pharmacy role. All offers of employment in the pharmacy department are conditional on the applicant successfully completing and passing a drug test in accordance with the Fred Hutch policy.
The hourly pay range for this position is from $35.09 to $52.63 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
