The Pharmacist In Charge (PIC) is responsible for preparing and dispensing appropriate pharmaceuticals to patients, leading a team of pharmacy technicians, and managing the overall day-to-day pharmacy responsibilities. This role requires strong leadership, operational oversight, regulatory compliance, and hands-on retail pharmacy management experience.
Essential Job Functions- Review and execute provider prescriptions while checking appropriateness and legality
- Prepare and dispense medications accurately for individual patients
- Organize the pharmacy for operational efficiency and workflow optimization
- Maintain inventory control, stocking, labeling, and medication expiration monitoring
- Maintain patient medication profiles and dispensing history
- Counsel patients and provide medication-related information and guidance
- Ensure compliance with HIP nd Fraud, Waste & Abuse regulations
- Ensure pharmacy and staff compliance with Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations
- Ensure adherence to facility policies and procedures
- Supervise and direct Pharmacy Technicians
- Assist with technician performance evaluations and behavioral management
- Manage technician schedules and staffing coordination
- Utilize Pharmacy Patient Management Systems effectively
- Support additional pharmacy operational duties as needed
Required Education & Skills- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) required
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Active Pharmacist License required
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong leadership, communication, and management skills
Experience Requirements- Minimum 3-5 years retail pharmacy management experience required
- Previous retail pharmacy experience required
- Previous pharmacy leadership experience preferred
- Experience utilizing Pharmacy Patient Management Systems
- Experience managing pharmacy operations and compliance
Physical Requirements- Standing for prolonged periods of time
- Fine motor skills
- Ability to handle, control, and operate pharmacy tools and equipment
