Position Overview:The Payroll Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of payroll administration, including accurate and timely processing of payroll, ensuring compliance with California wage and hour laws, managing payroll system updates, and overseeing administrative adjustments. This role requires strong knowledge of payroll systems, labor law compliance, and attention to detail.
Core Responsibilities- Manage end-to-end payroll processing for all employees, including compliance in California.
- Ensure accurate calculation and payment of wages, bonuses, overtime, and deductions. Including, staying within compliance with the Union requirements and garnishments.
- Review and approve payroll adjustments, retroactive payments, and final paychecks.
- Ensure timely and accurate distribution of pay stubs and wage statements.
- Process and remit Union Benefits to the correct local trusts.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of California Labor Code and BAPKO policies, including overtime, meal and rest break laws, and wage theft protections.
- Maintaining up to date knowledge of the CA Ironworkers Union Agreement
- Ensure payroll processes are compliant with federal, state, and local regulations, including BAPKO policies.
- Conduct regular audits of payroll records and reports; correct any discrepancies promptly.
- Prepare reports for internal and external needs and support certified payroll audits.
- Collaborate with the appropriate departments to ensure that all payroll technology is working properly.
- Conduct payroll system validations and testing in a sandbox environment before production deployment.
- Maintain documentation of system changes and ensure integrity of payroll data.
- Supervise payroll staff and provide training on regulatory changes and internal procedures.
- Work closely with HR on employee classification, onboarding/offboarding, and benefits-related payroll updates.
- Partner with Finance to reconcile payroll and prepare journal entries as needed.
- Review and process Payroll Adjustment Requests and respond appropriately.
- Communicate payroll corrections to employees in a clear and timely manner.
- Assist with ESOP administration, such as reporting the annual census to our TPA.
- Adhoc reporting as necessary.
Qualifications - Associate's degree / certification in related fields preferred
- 7+ years payroll experience; 3-5 yrs+ supervisory experience
- Strong experience with California Wage and hour law compliance is required
- Experience with Trade Unions and Certified Payroll requirements preferred
- Experience with large payroll systems, Paylocity and Sage Intacct a plus
- 100% In office work environment, minimal travel as needed.

$100,000 - $125,000 annually
