This position is open for external candidates only to apply. What You Will DoThis position will support the Logistics Heavy Equipment Roads and Grounds and Transit Service business lines. The Operations Support Specialist provides operational, analytical, and administrative support across multiple programs, with responsibilities that include business process improvement, data analysis, operational reporting, documentation control, scheduling support, and coordination of day-to-day business operations. Time will be allocated among these business lines based on organizational priorities and operational needs. Safety and security are a primary responsibility for all Laboratory employees. You will be required to make safety and security an integral part of every task.
The Operations Support Specialist 2 will collaborate with Operations Managers with tasks including (but not limited to):
- Collecting, validating, analyzing, and reporting operational data supporting Heavy Equipment, Roads and Grounds and LANL Transit to monitor performance, identify trends, ensure compliance, and support data-driven decision-making through reports, dashboards, and tracking tools.
- Managing fuel data and billing processes, including data validation, reconciliation, cost allocation, discrepancy resolution, and coordination with stakeholders to ensure accurate reporting and cost recovery across supported operations
- Maintaining the integrity of operational databases, business systems, and records while supporting the administration of transit scheduling software, ridership databases, and other operational tracking systems to ensure accurate and reliable information.
- Assisting in the development and maintenance of required operational documentation for LOG-HERG, including revision of procedures, specifications, and forms. Development, maintenance, and implementation of transit fixed-route, on-demand, and charter service schedules, while supporting efficient resource utilization across assigned business lines. All work will be performed in compliance with all applicable document control and records management activities.
- Monitoring operational performance by compiling and analyzing business metrics such as ridership trends, route performance, vehicle utilization, and fuel usage, equipment utilization, and other key performance indicators to identify opportunities for operational improvement. Identifying, recommending, and supporting implementation of process improvements that enhance efficiency, accuracy, quality, customer service, and operational effectiveness across Heavy Equipment, Roads and Grounds, and LANL Transit.

- Interacting with internal and external senior personnel to identify, resolve, and implement solutions for the assigned operation or task.

What You Need Minimum Job Requirements: - Experience working with enterprise systems or databases for tracking operations, assets, fuel usage, or financial data (e.g., CMMS, ERP systems, or similar platforms).
- Familiarity with key performance indicators (KPIs) related to transit or service operations, such as ridership, on-time performance, and productivity metrics to track process improvement impacts.
- Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication and listening skills.
- Ability to work closely with team-members and members of other organizations and customers to solve problems, define expectations, and uphold mutual responsibilities.
- Demonstrated experience in process improvement, including identifying inefficiencies and implementing solutions to improve workflows, data quality, or reporting accuracy.
- Knowledge of integrated safety, formality of operations, compliance and quality assurance, confirmation management, work control, and physical and cyber security.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel or similar tools, including data analysis, pivot tables, and reporting.
Education/Experience: Position requires an Associate's Degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution and 4 years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications: - Demonstrated basic to intermediate experience and/or knowledge of Laboratory business, maintenance program systems (e.g. Asset Suite or AssetWorks), and standard LANL software applications (UTrain, Concur, Sunflower, Oracle modules, etc.).
- Experience supporting public transit, transportation operations, or logistics programs, including service performance monitoring and operational coordination.
- Experience with fuel management, billing, cost tracking, and financial reconciliation processes in an operational or transportation environment.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze operational data and develop reports, dashboards, or performance metrics to support decision-making.
- Bachelor's Degree in Business-related field of study preferred.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
