Job Summary

The Drops Operations Director is AFL's direct representative to the customer's directors and managers, balancing AFL resources with customer expectations and requirements. The Drops Operations Director has oversight on financial and resource allocation responsibility and accountability for projects assigned to the associated area of responsibility. The Drops Operations Director reports direction to the AFL Network Services area Vice President. Reporting to the Drops Operations Director may be one or more Operations Managers, and possibly an administrative assistant. The Drops Operations Director coordinates the efforts of these subordinates, subcontractors, and other AFL Directors within and outside assigned AFL area to maximize efficiencies and customer satisfaction of every telecommunication equipment installation.

Responsibilities
  • To ensure activities comply with all company EHS policies and appropriate OSHA regulations, and to review operational risk assessments to ensure that risks are mitigated in activities of Operations personnel
  • To interact with customer directors and managers (both financial and operations) ensuring that the installation product meets customer expectations and set standards and AFL is compensated for agree services
  • To provide positive leadership and effective oral and written communication to subordinates, peers, and higher management on all pertinent issues
  • To project future workload, manpower and resource requirements, and make recommendations for approvals and requests for additional fund allocations to support future expenditures
  • To create, maintain, and terminate subcontractor relationships for balanced fiscal performance through variable workloads through documented MSAs
  • Maintain and enhance quality assurance programs to meet or exceed clients expectations of both vendor and internal FTE performance.
  • To review schedules and monitor installation manpower to ensure that hours used are at or below budgeted installation hours, reviewing and requesting overtime approval from the Vice President, as required
  • To review the job costs, over budget material requests, expedited shipping requests for projects including conducting post-mortem job cost reviews on jobs with financial anomalies, low profitability, or low efficiency
  • To review the appropriateness of additional compensation requests (change orders) to customers when the scope of installation changes or other factors when AFL should be additionally compensated
  • To ensure subordinates are adequately trained to perform activities to AFL and local standards
  • To perform human resource functions as AFL's representative including evaluate performance of subordinates, recommend retention, recommend advancement, recommend pay changes
  • To ensure AFL project tracking programs and other required computer based programs are updated
  • To provide referrals to the Sales and Marketing Department of identified customer opportunities
  • To train, motivate, and develop management ream to reach their fullest potential and to maximize business opportunities

Qualifications
  • The Operations Director should have a Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree, or 6 years of relevant managerial experience.
  • The Operations Director must have strong: computer skills, communication skills in both written and verbal, leadership qualities, inter-personal skills, basic understanding of business finance, concern for personal safety and have the ability to manage large business accounts on both locally and remotely.
  • Responsible for ensuring overall operating profitability for the area of responsibility by minimizing direct project costs and in-direct operations costs
  • Industry experience managing a diverse product line
  • Technical background with multi-disciplined experience
  • Experience leading technical and manufacturing personnel
  • Experience with current software products
  • Experience with quality documentation, (ISO9000) and auditing
  • Knowledge of EHS requirements
  • Ability to travel as required for sales support/trade shows

Working Conditions

Combination of normal office environment and field/site conditions. General hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with the ability to provide support outside regular business hours as needed. Frequent travel across regional service areas is required. Must be able to work in the United States.
