Description
IFC's Operations Management Department (COM) drives operational excellence by strengthening how investment operations are designed, managed, and delivered. The department focuses on improving efficiency, decision making, and scalability across the full investment lifecycle, enabling teams to deliver greater impact under increasingly complex and resource-constrained environments. COM works across functions to modernize policies and procedures, business processes, enhance data and analytics, support digital and system transformation, and promote proactive operations management practices. Through close collaboration with operational teams, the department helps translate strategy into practical solutions that improve delivery speed, quality, and risk management.
The Analytics, Reporting & Data Enablement (COMAR) division serves as the corporation's center of excellence, responsible for managing IFC's analytics and reporting platforms, leading management reporting and corporate performance monitoring, building AI-enabled analytics and insights, coordinating IFC's data governance body and program, managing portfolio solutions and outsourced operations, and delivering data literacy and engagement programs.
Duties and Accountabilities
COMAR is seeking a qualified candidate to join the Portfolio Intelligence (PI) team, a cross-divisional data science initiative within the COM department that brings together data scientists from across divisions to collaborate on innovative AI and Machine Learning solutions. The PI team leverages IFC's extensive investment data - both historical and current, structured and unstructured - to uncover valuable insights and enhance decision-making quality.
Key tasks and responsibilities include:
• Gain a deep understanding of IFC's Investment Operations business processes and data to deliver innovative solutions
• Partner with business and technical stakeholders across the organization to translate challenging business problems into impactful data science solutions
• Recommend and pursue data science solutions to discover business insights and enable business functions to be data-driven.
• Collaborate with data engineers, data stewards, product owners, and business users to support projects through the end-to-end data science lifecycle, exploratory analysis, hypothesis testing, modeling, rapid prototyping, business validation/testing, and operational deployment
• Leverage a diverse set of structured and unstructured data to derive meaningful insights and information sets for modeling
• Communicate complex analytical work to a variety of technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Maintain expertise and awareness of emerging data science techniques, technologies, and potential business applications for ML/AI
• Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and a desire to work in teams in fast-paced work environments
• Manage multiple concurrent projects that require inputs from stakeholders while balancing impact on business needs
• Collaborate effectively with IT for technology, tools, data engineering, and platforms
• Ensure adherence to data governance policies, standards, and procedures
Selection Criteria
• Master's degree from an accredited college/university in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Statistics, Economics, Information Systems, or related field.
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in building data science solutions for investment operations or asset management topics, ideally in the private sector
• Demonstrated understanding of financial concepts and application of data science in financial, corporate, or investment operations domains.
• Strong analytical skills to critically evaluate gathered data and the ability to link or associate with other datasets and data needs.
• Knowledge and experience in scripting and programming with Python, R, and SQL
• Knowledge and experience with relevant technologies, preferably in cloud environment and tools provided within Azure and AWS, including Databricks.
• Aptitude for learning and applying new technologies related to Data Science and Data Management.
• Demonstrated self-starter with a high degree of responsiveness and proactivity.
• Preferred knowledge and adherence to data privacy and compliance standards or industry-specific regulations.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, internationally diverse work environment; strong interpersonal skills are essential.
• Strong written and spoken communication skills in English; ability to communicate ideas clearly and confidently, articulate issues and recommend solutions.
