Inova Fair Oaks Hospitalis seeking an experienced Emergency Nurse Manager (RN) to join our team. This position will support both the Emergency Department and a 15 Bed Observation Unit. Relocation and Sign On Bonus Available for Eligible Candidates.

Schedule/Hours: This role will be full-time, Monday - Friday, Day Shift.

Inova Fair Oaks Emergency Room is a 34-bed emergency services facility recently renovated and expanded to serve patients, both adult and pediatric, more efficiently. Emergency medical care is provided by board-certified physicians from Virginia Emergency Medical Associates (VEMA).

Nurse Manager - Emergency Department/Observation Unit Job Responsibilities:
  • Oversees assigned unit to ensure it is performing effectively, which may include but not limited to, hiring and training team members, creating and implementing business strategies, managing performance of team members, and delegating tasks.
  • Ensures quality care by managing clinical nursing practice and care delivery that supports optimal outcomes. Partners with peers, team members and other disciplines in the operating unit and throughout the system to achieve objectives.
  • Monitors customer satisfaction and seeks ways to continually improve by ensuring implementation of evidence-based practices such as, but not limited to, discharge phone calls, leadership rounding (i.e. patients, physicians and internal customers), AIDET and HML conversations.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of a patient safety program and ensures that staff is clinically competent and trained in their role in patient safety. Influences improvements in practice settings by maintaining current standards and assuming responsibility for self-development in lifelong learning.
  • Participates in the risk/liability assessment while developing and implementing corrective action plans. Ensures that all team members possess and maintain proper assessment and clinical skills appropriate for the patient population.
  • Ensures execution and documentation of the Center for Medicaid & Medicare Services core indicators when appropriate. Conducts education and mock MSET's in addition to participating in unit-specific drills.
  • Analyzes practices that contribute to variance, draws conclusions from aggregate data, identifies resources to assist in variance analysis and assists with drawing conclusions from aggregate data.
  • Assists in the development and monitoring of metrics related to process improvement at the unit level by using national and organizational benchmarks that target evidence-based outcomes. Facilitates the implementation of a non-punitive error reporting system to encourage mitigation of unsafe practices. Assists with IRCA completion and implementation of corrective action plans at the unit level. Assists in the development of patient care quality improvement goals at the department/unit level.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelors Degree in Nursing
  • Experience: 2 years of nursing experience related to the unit's scope.
  • Certification/Licensure: Basic Life Support & Advanced Cardiovascular Life required for Emergency Department, Critical Care, and procedural areas from the American Heart Association;Licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience: Experience in a leadership role (Supervisor & above) as a Registered Nurse; Strong leadership skills; Strong chart/clinical nurse experience
  • Certification: Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
