Position: Nurse Manager, Medical/Surgical Unit

Location: Brunswick Medical Center, Bolivia, NC

Schedule: Full Time, 40 hours per week

Our 74-bed community hospital is at the center of one of North Carolina's fastest-growing counties, and we're investing accordingly - in capital projects, service line expansion, and in the leaders who will carry that growth forward. We're seeking an experienced Nurse Manager to lead our 50-bed Medical/Surgical unit through this next chapter.

This is a hands-on operational leadership role for someone who is energized by building strong staffing systems, developing engaged teams, and elevating the patient experience - supported by a team of three Assistant Nurse Managers already in place and a CNO invested in your success.

What You'll Do
• Staffing & scheduling operations - build reliable coverage models, own the unit's staffing plan, and reduce reliance on premium/contingency labor.
• Team engagement & retention - develop onboarding, mentorship, and retention strategies that build a unit staff genuinely wants to stay on.
• Patient experience leadership - implement and sustain practices (rounding, bedside shift report, service recovery) that elevate the patient's experience of care.
• Quality & safety - own infection prevention performance and safety metrics as a core personal priority, in close partnership with Quality and Infection Prevention.
• Talent development - coach and develop three Assistant Nurse Managers into confident, capable unit leaders.
• Budget management - manage the unit's operating budget and staffing spend with a clear line of sight to variance drivers.
• Strategic partnership - work directly with the CNO on capacity planning and service enhancements tied to the hospital's growth trajectory.

The Nurse Manager's primary job responsibility is to deliver the most remarkable patient experience, in every dimension, every time. The Nurse Manager facilitates an environment that allows staff to be present with patients and their families by supporting their desire to positively impact the health and well-being of our patients, our families, and our communities through the nursing process. The Nurse Manager strives to spend at least 50% of his/her time on the unit and is visible, present and available to staff to provide necessary mentoring, teaching and support. Nurse Managers develops and maintains collegial relationships with physicians, clinical educators and other interdisciplinary team members. Provides leadership and creates a strategy to achieve the best outcomes including but not limited to quality, financial vitality, employee and customer satisfaction.

What We're Looking For

  • Education:4 Year / Bachelors Degree, required. Bachelors Degree in Nursing. Graduate Degree, preferred.
  • Experience: Two years demonstrated leadership experience, preferred. Three years clinical RN experience in an acute care setting, preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification: Current RN licensure in appropriate state, required. NC state approved curricula for restrictive interventions (facility specific) within 3 months of hire for Emergency Departments and Behavioral Health units, required. Board certification in area of practice, preferred.
  • Additional Skills (required): Understands and applies: current and future trends/practice in area of responsibility; regulatory and governing standards, policies and procedures; information systems and software used in area of responsibility; equipment used in performing assigned duties; application of safety and infection control policies and procedures; skills in interviewing and selection process; understanding of budgeting, staffing, payroll and purchasing processes; implementation of competency, feedback, development and progressive discipline processes; teambuilding, conflict management, and interpersonal relationship skills; principles of adult learning and teaching methods/models; decision making, project leadership and consultation, delegation and communication skills; customer needs and expectations and knowledge for improvement to exceed customer expectations; principles of change management.
