What you'll be doing:

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm, flex with shift coverage

The Nurse Manager is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the unit under the general direction of the Director of Nursing.

Essential duties and responsibilities:
  • Directly supervises nurses and unit coordinators, and indirectly supervises behavioral health counselors. Conducts annual performance reviews on specified group of staff. Handles personnel and performance issues within the unit staff. Assigns staff to schedule ensuring appropriate staffing levels, using PRN, agency and other employees to cover shifts. Helps with staffing or coverage in a staffing emergency. Ensures that Nurses and other staff are current in competencies and provide training and education as needed, in conjunction with nurse educator, working with leaders in other disciplines, as needed. Facilitates safety huddles and team meetings, and monthly unit meetings, as required.
  • Trouble-shoots problems/situations that arise on the unit, and escalating decisions when appropriate. Provides clinical expertise in medical management, crisis and behavior management techniques. Reviews incident reports and follow up through established processes. Supervise the medical aspects of treatment plan and implementation for each patient on the unit. Follow up on any treatment issues.
  • Provides support to nursing staff on evenings and weekends by working at those times and/or being available (on-call) by phone on assigned nights. Helps with staffing or coverage in a staffing emergency. Assists with duties on the unit as needed-this includes:
    • Helping Nurses with daily tasks (lab draws, procedures, admissions, assessments, discharges/transitions)
    • Eating meals with patients and providing support at snacks
    • Assisting with milieu management and crisis management
    • Assisting with daily patient care (vital signs, providing support in the bathroom)
  • Assists Nurse Director with various duties, as designated by Nurse Director, including but not limited to monthly audits, checklists, communication to staff and reviewing/updating policies and procedures. Assists in providing feedback and assuring compliance with Policies and Procedures that meet accreditation and licensing requirements, and implementing corrective action plans, as required. Run monthly reports, as required. Assists with Infection Control. Monitor weekly data collected and presents trends to the Director of nursing. Coordinates daily staffing needs with Nurse Director and communicating patient acuity and staffing needs to various stakeholders.
  • Plans 1:1 patient monitoring as requested by treatment team. Communicates with members of the interdisciplinary team to assist with patient treatment plans.
  • Manages vendor and pharmacy relations ensuring that the unit has sufficient supplies.

Must haves:
  • State Licensure as an RN (Required)

  • 3+ years of supervisory experience in healthcare setting (preferred)

Bonus qualities:
  • Master's degree (M.S.N) preferred


The compensation range for this position is based upon candidate experience and market expectations.

Illinois Pay Range

$92,000-$108,000 USD
