Job Title: NetApp Storage Engineer

Location(s): Chicago, IL

Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Data Migration Specialist to join our team for a critical data migration project involving NetApp storage platforms. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of executing milestone-based projects, meeting or exceeding timelines and expectations, and effectively communicating with a wide variety of stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the migration of data, including data and root shares, from existing source systems to NetApp storage platforms (ONTAP / Cloud Volumes / Azure NetApp Files).
  • Conduct data separation activities and validate completed migration data.
  • Create folder structures and network shares based on findings and business standards approved by the customer.
  • Advise the customer on the creation of Active Directory groups/users required for new data locations.
  • Apply NTFS permissions as required for folder archive and business needs (up to two tiers/folders in the directory structure).
  • Provide logistics and coordination of all data transfer / staging environments (seed servers or replication mechanisms), if necessary.
  • Recommend properly sized infrastructure or transfer mechanisms for large-scale data migration.
  • Utilize tools necessary for data migration and creation of all new destination folders in NetApp volumes (NFS/CIFS/SMB shares).
  • Verify and validate data migration and share integrity post-migration.
  • Configure and optimize NetApp data lifecycle management policies (e.g., tiering, snapshot policies, data efficiency features).
  • Conduct User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and support customer validation cycles.
  • Document processes and provide ongoing status reporting and updates.

Required Skills and Experience:
  • US Citizenship and residency in the Continental US / Lower 48 States.
  • 5+ Years of Experience With:
    • NetApp Storage Solutions (ONTAP, Cloud Volumes ONTAP, Azure NetApp Files).
    • Windows File Server migrations, including use of Robocopy and similar migration tools.
    • Robocopy scripting.
    • Active Directory NTFS security permissions aligned to NetApp CIFS/SMB file services.
    • Azure Storage and hybrid cloud integration.
    • Microsoft Active Directory and TCP/IP networking.
