Position SummaryThe Music Licensing & Operations Manager supports the execution and operational management of music licensing, clearances, and documentation across NBAE, local broadcast production, NBA TV, marketing initiatives, and tentpole events, for the NBA, affiliate leagues, teams, and regional offices. This role serves as a key coordination partner across internal stakeholders (Legal, Content, Events, Finance, Global Partnerships and Marketing) and external rightsholders, ensuring music usage is properly tracked, cleared, documented, and delivered on schedule. The position plays a critical role in maintaining compliance, operational accuracy, and workflow efficiency across high-volume, deadline-driven projects.
Major Responsibilities- Track, manage, and coordinate music clearance requests across league events, broadcasts, promotional content, and live performances
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of music usage, approvals, licenses, invoices, and related documentation
- Support the preparation, distribution, and organization of clearance materials, usage confirmations, and license agreements
- Assist with the intake of new music requests, changes, and revisions throughout production and post-production cycles
- Support music operations for major tentpole events (e.g., All-Star, NBA Cup, marquee games, and league initiatives)
- Attend rehearsals and production run-throughs, as needed, to support music tracking and last-minute updates
- Coordinate real-time changes to music selections and ensure accurate documentation is reflected promptly
- Serve as a liaison between NBAE, Legal, Events, Finance, Marketing, and external music partners to ensure alignment of approvals and deliverables
- Communicate updates, changes, and status reports to internal stakeholders in a clear and timely manner
- Support departmental communications related to music usage, scheduling, and documentation
- Assist with formatting, organizing, and maintaining music-related files, trackers, and reports with the use of AI-approved enterprise tools
- Submit cue sheets on behalf of NBAE and regional offices to the Performance Rights Organizations every quarter
- Support ongoing workflow refinement to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of music operations
Required Skills/Knowledge- Understanding and familiarity with music clearance licensing, agreements, and negotiations.
- Ability to issue-spot when given direction.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and multitask effectively, and to organize and prioritize projects as directed.
- Ability to distill a large volume of information into clear, concise recaps.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience working in a fast-paced, matrixed organization that requires coordination and collaboration across multiple departments and sub-departments.
- Advanced experience with Microsoft Office and Google Docs Editors, especially for creating and maintaining spreadsheets (Excel, Google Sheets).
Experience Needed- 4+ years with a background in media, sports, entertainment, or music publishing.
Educational Background RequiredSalary Range:$100,000 - $110,000
