This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

As part of a small, passionate, and accomplished team of engineers and technicians, you will design and build the systems for Blue Origin Lunar Landers Vehicle Test Bed (VTB)/ Hardware in the loop (HIL) systems. The VTBs/HILs will be used to ensure the correctness and performance of the vehicle avionics software, interfaces between the subsystems and other space vehicles/systems. You will also design and build the emulators for the test bed. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your commitment and detailed attention. Because of the need for hands-on work, this position requires on-site work at Renton, WA.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Design, architecture, procurement, build, integration, and certification of the VTBs and avionics emulators
  • Assess, upgrade, and redesign existing HIL/VTB infrastructure to meet evolving vehicle and test requirements
  • Design and maintain electrical harness diagrams; own configuration control of all harness documentation through the full lifecycle
  • Coordinate with vehicle subsystem and test teams to define test requirements, integrate subsystems into the VTB, and complete system and subsystem test plans
  • Support integration of flight avionics, hardware, operator consoles, test equipment, and analysis tooling necessary to verify requirements and performance of avionics units under test
  • Support checkout of avionics systems and resolve technical problems
  • Develop VTB integration and change management plans
  • Maintain configuration control of VTB hardware and software configuration

Minimum Qualifications
  • B.S. degree in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, or related technical degree
  • 2+ years of industry experience with avionics systems integration and verification
    Excellent problem investigation skills and proficiency in the use of standard electronic lab test equipment (oscilloscopes, DMMs, power meters, data acquisition cards, etc)
  • Solid understanding and appreciation for configuration management principles
  • Ability to earn trust and maintain positive and professional relationships.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Preferred Qualifications
  • M.S. degree in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, or related technical degree
  • Experience upgrading or redesigning HIL/VTB systems to support new vehicle configurations or expanded test capability
  • Proficiency with Zuken E3 or similar EDA tooling for harness design and configuration control
  • Experience defining, designing, and/or operating electrical ground support equipment, labs, and/or test assets for hardware-in-the-loop testing
  • Experience with development and execution of large-scale verification of avionics on autonomous spaceflight systems
  • Experience with verification of communication and radio systems in integrated laboratories
  • Experience with JAMA, Windchill, and Zuken


Base Pay Range for:
WA applicants is $99,201.00 - $138,880.35
