SUMMARY

Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced MEP Design Phase Manager who will be responsible for providing overall management direction and expertise for design phase activities for one or more concurrent projects inclusive of project estimating, business partner selection, preliminary schedule, design development, quality control and planning for the commissioning of the MEP scope of work.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide input and participate in the identification, development, preparation and presentation for the acquisition of new projects


  • Design Phase Management:


  • Provide input and participate in the identification, development, preparation and presentation for the acquisition of new projects.


  • Review MEP options, generate systems analysis, and provide system options for a particular project


  • Providing meaningful input to the project's programming and conceptual design activities


  • Coordinate life cycle cost analysis during MEP system selection


  • Review documents from project award through buyout for system sizing, coordination, interface, and constructability and logistics solutions. Identify potential issues to appropriate engineering discipline


  • Estimating:


  • Provide and/or participate in value alternative development with dollar magnitudes


  • Participate in value alternative review sessions for mechanical and electrical disciplines


  • Present MEP estimate detail to clients and engineers


  • Maintain mechanical and electrical historical cost data


  • Prepare budgetary MEP estimates based upon program and schematic design information


  • Business Partners:


  • Assist bid team in analyzing market conditions and developing bid list


  • Lead and/or participate in MEP business partner selection process including soliciting business partners, preparing estimate narratives (scope definition), coordinating design input, developing bid packages, proposal analysis, and final selection.


  • Provide consistent support for project team(s) and on-site MEP resources during construction to ensure scope, quality and schedule performance goals established during design are met by our MEP business partners


  • Evaluate mechanical and electrical changes from business partners


  • Assist Project Manager in contract development for MEP business partners


  • Integrating 3D/4D modeling technology into the preconstruction phase of the projects


  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor


  • Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels


  • Lead team members by example, offer effective coaching and feedback, and effectively manage performance


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent field experience


  • Minimum of 10 years of construction experience, preferably experience with a Mechanical, Electrical Contractor, or a Mechanical, Electrical, or Plumbing engineering firm


  • Minimum of five years estimating or on-site project management experience in construction or 5 years experience designing or project management at an engineering firm.


  • Thorough knowledge of building Codes and their application in design and construction including, but not limited to, IBC, NFPA's, IMC, IFC, UFC, Energy Codes or the ability to read and understand them.


  • Strong cross-cultural relationship building and influencing abilities internally and externally at all levels of the organization


  • Strong leadership, communication, problem solving, initiative and teamwork skills


  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office


  • Thorough knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and low-voltage systems


  • Working knowledge of construction equipment and techniques, scheduling and cost control procedures, drawings and specifications, and required standards


  • Active listening skills and effective communication including an openness to diverse input and feedback


  • Ability to travel up to 70%

The base pay range for this role is $113,500 MIN - $198,200 MAX. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL - 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR - 10%, Washington, D.C. - 12.5%).

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson's incentive plan.
