Job Details

ChristianaCare is seeking a Medication Safety Officer (MSO) to serve as an enterprise-wide leader advancing the safe and effective use of medications across our health system.

This is not a traditional pharmacy operations position. It is a highly visible quality and safety role for an accomplished pharmacy professional who wants to influence medication safety on a broader scale, using clinical expertise, data, technology, and collaboration to identify risk and drive meaningful, system-level improvement.

As Medication Safety Officer, you will work across ChristianaCare’s acute and ambulatory settings, partnering with pharmacy, clinical, quality, operational, and executive leaders. You’ll help identify emerging medication-safety risks, establish priorities, translate data into action, and bring multidisciplinary teams together to develop and implement solutions.

You’ll also have the opportunity to be at the forefront of strategic planning, program development and implementation, and the optimization of innovative medication-management and safety technologies as ChristianaCare continues to expand the reach and impact of pharmacy expertise across the organization.

We’re looking for someone who combines strong medication-safety and clinical knowledge with the ability to influence, connect, and lead across disciplines. You know how to take complex medication-safety information and make it meaningful to others. You can build relationships, gain consensus, navigate differing perspectives, and move important work forward, even without direct authority.

Experience leading healthcare quality or safety initiatives, working with regulatory and performance-improvement requirements, and using data to identify opportunities for improvement will position you well for success.

Most importantly, you’ll bring curiosity, sound judgment, and a collaborative approach to creating safer systems for patients.

Education/Experience Requirement:

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree required. Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY1 pharmacy residency or equivalent health-system pharmacy experience required.

  • Minimum five years of progressive health-system pharmacy experience, including at least three years of medication safety, quality improvement, pharmacy informatics, or related systems-level leadership experience required.

  • Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary teams, applying performance-improvement methods, analyzing safety data, and implementing sustainable changes across complex clinical operations required.

  • Completion of a PGY2 residency or fellowship in Medication-Use Safety and Policy, Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership, Pharmacy Informatics, or another relevant specialty preferred.

  • Experience with enterprise electronic health records and medication-use technologies required; experience with Epic medication-management functionality, clinical decision support, pharmacy automation, and data visualization preferred.

ChristianaCare offers a comprehensive and competitive benefits package, including:

  • Day-one medical, dental, and vision coverage

  • Retirement plans including 403(b) and defined contribution options

  • Work/life support, including backup dependent care and wellness programs

  • Generous paid time off and lifestyle benefits
