Position Summary
Reporting directly to the Chief Medical Officer, Americas, and operating in dual alignment with the Hugel Canada General Manager, the Medical Affairs Manager serves as the medical and scientific leader for Canada and a member of the Canadian Leadership Team.
This individual will drive scientific engagement, healthcare professional education, medical strategy, and cross-functional collaboration, while building the foundation for a scalable Medical Affairs organization in Canada. The role requires a highly motivated medical affairs professional with prior MSL experience, strong scientific credibility, and the ability to operate effectively within a fast-growing, entrepreneurial environment.
What You Will Do
Medical & Scientific Leadership
- Serve as the medical and scientific expert for Hugel products and therapeutic areas in Canada.
- Provide scientific leadership and evidence-based medical guidance to internal stakeholders and healthcare professionals.
- Monitor clinical, scientific, and competitive developments and translate insights into actionable business recommendations.
- Support Canadian business planning through medical insights and customer perspectives.
KOL Engagement & Scientific Exchange
- Establish and maintain trusted partnerships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), investigators, and healthcare professionals.
- Conduct compliant scientific exchange and communicate clinical data in a balanced, non-promotional manner.
- Identify emerging trends, unmet medical needs, and opportunities to improve patient outcomes.
- Support advisory boards, speaker programs, congresses, and scientific meetings.
Medical Information & Scientific Support
- Respond to medical and scientific inquiries from healthcare professionals and internal stakeholders.
- Provide accurate, balanced, and evidence-based information.
- Support development and review of medical response documents and scientific communications.
- Ensure appropriate documentation and tracking of medical inquiries.
Medical-Led HCP Education & Training
- Lead the medical strategy, scientific oversight, and governance of healthcare professional education and training programs.
- Identify, evaluate, and qualify healthcare professional trainers and external scientific experts.
- Ensure all educational content remains aligned with approved product information, current scientific evidence, and applicable compliance requirements.
- Provide medical review and approval of training materials and educational programs.
- Collaborate with Commercial, Compliance, Regulatory Affairs, and Clinical Training teams while maintaining Medical Affairs ownership of scientific content.
- Monitor training effectiveness and recommend continuous improvements.
Clinical Education & Account Support
- Provide scientific and technical education to healthcare professionals during new account onboarding.
- Support clinical product evaluation and ongoing scientific engagement to optimize customer experience.
Promotional Material Review & Compliance
- Conduct medical review of promotional and non-promotional materials.
- Ensure scientific accuracy and compliance with Health Canada requirements, PAAB guidelines, the IMC Code, and company policies and procedures.
- Collaborate closely with Regulatory Affairs, Compliance, Pharmacovigilance, and Legal.
Pharmacovigilance & Product Quality Support
- Identify and appropriately report adverse events, product complaints, and other safety-related information in accordance with company procedures.
- Collaborate with Pharmacovigilance and Quality teams to support patient safety and regulatory compliance.
Strategic Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Serve as an active member of the Canadian Leadership Team.
- Provide strategic medical input for cross-functional collaboration.
- Collaborate cross-functionally while maintaining independence of Medical Affairs decision-making.
- Contribute to the development of medical strategies supporting long-term growth in Canada.
Team Development & Organizational Growth
- Build scalable Medical Affairs capabilities, processes, and governance frameworks.
- Support future recruitment, onboarding, and development of Medical Affairs personnel.
- Within 1-3 years, establish and lead a high-performing Medical Affairs team aligned with business growth.
- Foster a culture of scientific excellence, compliance, accountability, and collaboration.
What We Are Looking For
- Minimum 5 years of Medical Science Liaison (MSL) experience.
- 2-3 years of people leadership or project leadership experience preferred.
- Advanced healthcare/scientific degree (MD, PharmD, PhD, or MSc) preferred; an RN with relevant medical aesthetics experience may also be considered.
- Expertise in aesthetics, dermatology, plastic surgery, injectables, or related fields strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience building and influencing KOL networks.
- Strong understanding of Health Canada, PAAB, IMC, and other applicable compliance requirements.
- Exceptional presentation, communication, and scientific interpretation skills.
- Strategic mindset with the ability to operate independently in a growth-stage environment.
- English fluency required; French bilingual capability considered an asset.
- High integrity, strong compliance orientation, and a collaborative, cross-functional mindset.
- Willingness to travel up to 50% across Canada.
Compensation
The base pay range for this position is $130,000-$150,000 per year. Several factors, such as experience, tenure, skills, qualifications, internal equity, and particular business needs, will determine an individual's exact level of compensation. Base salary is only one element of employee compensation at Hugel Aesthetics. Total cash compensation may include base salary and incentive compensation, as applicable.
