Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated Truck Frame Engineer with strong experience in Design for Manufacturing (DFM), metal fabrication, and supplier collaboration. This role will be responsible for the design, development, and production support of truck frame structures, ensuring robustness, manufacturability, and cost efficiency.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with welded structures, fabrication processes, and work closely with suppliers to bring designs from concept to production.
Position Responsibilities
  • Design and develop truck frame structures and subframes from concept through production
  • Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles to ensure efficient fabrication, weldments and assembly
  • Create and release 2D drawings, 3D models, and GD&T documentation
  • Work closely with fabrication shops and suppliers to optimize manufacturability, cost, and quality
  • Support prototype builds, testing, and validation of frame designs
  • Review and approve supplier designs, tooling, and fabrication processes
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in frame design, weight reduction, and cost optimization
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing issues, welding defects, and tolerance stack-ups
  • Participate in design reviews, DFMEA, and root cause analysis
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and durability requirements.


Position Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in truck, trailer, heavy vehicle frame design, or complex weldments
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Welded structures and fabrication processes
    • Design for Manufacturing (DFM)
    • Steel structures and material selection
  • Experience working with suppliers and fabrication vendors
  • Proficiency in CAD tools (Inventor, or similar)
  • Knowledge of GD&T and tolerance analysis
  • Experience with prototype builds and production support

  • Utilize Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to evaluate structural performance, identify design improvements, and drive data-based engineering decisions

  • Understanding of cost modeling and supplier negotiation
