Scope of Position:

Supervise the Mechanical Equipment Engineering team at CET Erwin Plant. The team develops solutions to improve equipment OEE, manages capital equipment projects and supports new product development. Team is comprised of mechanical engineering, project management and drawing/design expertise.
  • Ensure the safety of plant personnel through safe design, operations and maintenance of plant property and equipment
  • Responsible to grow team skills for successful completion of team, personal, and career objectives
  • Allocate and manage resources to meet plant objectives and division vital few
  • Implement new manufacturing technologies, equipment, and methods


Day to Day Responsibilities:
  • Champion safety in all aspects of mechanical equipment design, installation and repair
  • Lead resolution of complex equipment problems
  • Improve existing manufacturing equipment processes and capabilities to reduce cost, improve quality, safety or capacity
  • Manage drawings and design services
  • Develop and install root cause analysis and structured problem solving for cause identification and corrective action
  • Manage internal Corning and external resources to meet project deliverables
  • Work with the plant capital manager to provide input to the capital portfolio
  • Develop, instill and promote effective project management skills


Role Within Group:
  • Provide project leadership, technical and equipment engineering leadership/ skills to meet department goals and objectives
  • Member of Division Engineering Project Management Council
  • Member of Plant's OEE improvement team
  • Member of Plant's extended leadership team (ELT)


Travel Requirements: In frequent, expect less than 5%

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: Typically 8 AM - 5 PM Monday - Friday, off hour and weekend support as needed.

Required Education:
  • Bachelors or Masters in an engineering discipline (mechanical preferred)


Required Years and Area of Experience:
  • 3- 5 years' experience in manufacturing or engineering with supervision


Required Skills:
  • Technical competence in mechanical engineering
  • Proficient people management and development
  • Experience successfully developing and delivering capital equipment projects
  • Project leadership, including ability to achieve results through matrix organization or team.
  • Achieve results through application of rigorous project management methods, such as 6-Sigma.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at technical problem-solving and decision-making.


Desired Skills:
  • Budget development and management
  • Knowledge of Solidworks, CAD software systems and document control
  • Experience with application of 6-Sigma methods and MEE
  • Experience with ceramics processing or related technologies
  • Experience with maintenance management and repair parts systems (Maximo, PeopleSoft, other)
  • Soft Skills (Communication/Team/Leadership):
  • Self-starter, able to function with a high level of independence
  • Communicates effectively in writing and in a group setting
  • Interpersonal skills - open, engaging, enables others
  • Ability to perform in team or matrix environment

The range for this position is $83,134.00 - $114,310.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
