Engineering - Mechanical 6+ Yrs. Exp. (Special Projects - Seattle/Tacoma)

KPFF Special Projects Group is currently seeking exceptional individuals with 6+ years of experience to apply for the position of Mechanical Engineer in either our Seattle or Tacoma offices. KPFF's Special Projects Seattle and Tacoma offices are part of a dynamic 150+ person group that provides civil engineering and planning, structural engineering, mechanical engineering and machine design, and project management. We provide these services on a wide range of project types through all stages of development.

Typical project types include:
  • Moveable vehicle and pedestrian bridges and other heavy moveable structures
  • Doors for aircraft hangars and other large buildings
  • Container terminal infrastructure design
  • Marina design
  • Ports, harbors, shipyards and other industrial waterfront projects
  • Fluid power design
  • Fuel piping systems
  • Bulk material handling systems
  • Rail Locomotive Maintenance Facility Infrastructure
  • Fisheries Engineering


Qualifications

Our ideal candidates would have:
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
  • PE Registration
  • Experience in the following areas:
    • Project Engineering and Project Management
    • Design of weldments and structures for dynamic loads
    • Stress analysis, including finite element analysis (FEA)
    • Machine Design, including shafts, bearings, gears and other machine components.
    • Design for fatigue
    • Kinematic and dynamic analysis of machines and systems
    • Hydraulic power systems.
    • Electric motors, electronic drives, and controls.
    • Industrial process piping and pumps.
    • Bulk Material Handling and storage
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks including parts modeling, assembly creation, and drawing production.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and/or Revit.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with project team members and clients on a variety of projects.
  • Detail oriented and desire for continued learning.
  • Clear communication and writing skills.

Physical demands and work environment:
  • Duties are primarily conducted in a standard office setting, requiring prolonged periods of sitting at a desk.
  • Occasionally may be required to lift objects weighing up to 15 lbs.
  • Occasionally visiting project locations and performing indoor/outdoor field observations, which may involve walking, standing, kneeling, climbing stairs/ladders and navigating uneven terrain.

Compensation:

The total compensation for this role is competitive and will be determined based on the candidate's experience, education, and skills. The expected total compensation range for a qualified candidate is $100,000 - $140,000 including performance-based bonuses to recognize and reward outstanding contributions in each Reporting Center.
