Job Title: Mechanical Control Units Design Engineer

Working Pattern: Full-time

Working location: Indianapolis, IN (Hybrid Working)

The Mechanical Control Units Design Engineer will develop control system hardware requirements, then guide Rolls-Royce approved suppliers through the detailed design process to ensure that delivered hardware meets all technical and program requirements.

The role will span the project lifecycle from requirements definition, concept development, detail component design, validation, and verification testing through final production release. The Design Engineer may lead a small team of colleagues to deliver the required hardware and associated documentation and will interface with both the external suppliers and the internal engine program teams.

What you will be doing

With this attractive opportunity you will get a chance to:
  • Responsible for the development of mechanical control units, including oversight of the mechanical design and analysis of components, taking the design through multiple gated design reviews, and oversight of the validation testing performed by contracted suppliers of the control hardware
  • Drive coordination of effort between the design, purchasing, manufacturing engineering teams with our suppliers to ensure that program needs are met through the execution of the work package to plan
  • Ensure project risks (technical, cost, supply chain and schedule) are identified and managed in accordance with the risk management plan
  • Engage in technical, manufacturing and supply chain issues and opportunities to enable quick decision making


Basic Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 2+ years of experience in mechanical design or control systems, OR
  • Master's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, OR
  • PhD in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • In order to be eligible for consideration, you must be a U.S. Citizen


Preferred Requirements:
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical design or control systems
  • Desire to successfully work in a team environment, establishing collaborative relationships with coworkers
  • Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI), change management, and risk management processes
  • Root Cause Analysis and other problem-solving techniques with knowledge of RTCA/DO-160 and MIL-STD-810 environmental testing standards
