Job Summary

Job Title: Mechanical Construction Scheduler

Location: Tempe, Arizona

SUMMARY

University Mechanical is seeking an experienced Mechanical Construction Scheduler to join our team. This is a critical role responsible for the development and ongoing maintenance of project critical path schedules. Using Primavera P6, the Scheduler will create and manage resource-loaded Critical Path Method (CPM) schedules for complex mechanical construction projects, including HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems across data center, semiconductor, industrial, and healthcare sectors. The ideal candidate will play a key role in supporting Project Managers by proactively identifying and addressing scheduling impacts and assisting in the resolution of field-related issues as they arise.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Critical path schedule development and maintenance- Utilizing Primavera P6, develop and maintain resource-loaded Critical Path Method (CPM) schedules for complex mechanical construction projects, including HVAC, process piping, and industrial systems. Responsibilities include:
    • Conduct constructability reviews with Foremen and Engineers to validate activity sequencing and durations
    • Evaluate client and General Contractor schedules to assess feasibility, identify sequencing conflicts, and mitigate potential bottlenecks
    • Develop and manage parallel workstreams for sheet metal, plumbing, and equipment installation while adhering to union jurisdictional requirements
    • Integrate procurement timelines for long-lead mechanical equipment (e.g., valves, chillers) into project schedules
    • Incorporate BIM coordination workflows and prefabrication processes into the master schedule
    • Establish and maintain standardized Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) templates for mechanical scopes
    • Implement earned value management (EVM) metrics to track installation productivity and labor performance
  • Cross functional collaboration - Act as the central scheduling liaison across project teams to ensure alignment and execution efficiency:
    • Partner with Project Managers to coordinate mechanical milestones with overall project phasing
    • Collaborate with VDC Managers to align BIM deliverables with construction sequencing
    • Coordinate with prefabrication teams to synchronize production and delivery with field installation needs
    • Work with union representatives to forecast and plan skilled labor requirements (pipefitters, plumbers, sheet metal workers)
    • Interface with Owner Representatives during schedule reviews and progress meetings
    • Develop and deliver training for Superintendents to reinforce schedule adherence and best practices

PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
  • Minimum of 7+ years of experience developing and managing schedules for mechanical construction scopes (HVAC, piping, plumbing) on projects exceeding $10 million in value within a U.S.-based mechanical contracting environment
  • Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6, with a demonstrated portfolio of detailed, resource-loaded schedules for mechanical work
  • Strong understanding of labor loading, manpower planning, and productivity analysis


COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Expert proficiency in Primavera P6 software with a portfolio demonstrating clear and detailed breakdowns of the mechanical scopes of work
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, and other mechanical, technical, or construction programs.
  • Familiarity with project management/document control software.
  • Familiarity with construction/financial software packages.
