Materials Manager

About the Role

We are seeking a Materials Manager to lead and enhance our supply chain, production planning, inventory control, warehouse, and logistics operations at our Tarboro manufacturing facility. This position plays a critical role in ensuring material availability for both terminal unit assembly operations and sheet metal fabrication processes while supporting production efficiency, inventory accuracy, and on-time customer delivery.

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with operations, manufacturing, purchasing, engineering, and customer service teams to optimize material flow throughout the facility and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

What You'll Do

Scheduling, Planning & Customer Delivery

  • Develop and oversee master production schedules to support customer demand and achieve on-time delivery objectives.
  • Ensure material availability for terminal unit assembly operations and sheet metal fabrication processes.
  • Balance production capacity, material constraints, and customer requirements to optimize throughput.
  • Partner with production, procurement, and customer service teams to proactively manage changing demand and priorities.
  • Utilize ERP/MRP systems to support planning, forecasting, and inventory management activities.


Inventory Management

  • Lead inventory control processes, including cycle counts, physical inventories, and inventory accuracy initiatives.
  • Manage raw materials, fabricated components, purchased parts, and finished goods inventories.
  • Drive reduction of excess and obsolete inventory while maintaining appropriate safety stock levels.
  • Analyze inventory trends and implement forecasting strategies to improve inventory turns and service levels.
  • Coordinate movement of materials between fabrication, assembly, warehousing, and external processing locations.


Warehouse & Logistics Oversight

  • Manage warehouse operations, receiving, storage, material handling, and shipping functions.
  • Ensure safe, efficient material flow supporting both fabrication and assembly operations.
  • Oversee inbound and outbound freight activities in accordance with company logistics strategies.
  • Monitor warehouse performance metrics and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and inventory control standards.


Supplier Scheduling & Performance

  • Collaborate with sourcing and procurement teams to ensure reliable material supply.
  • Monitor supplier delivery performance and resolve material shortages or supply disruptions.
  • Manage supplier schedules to align with production requirements and inventory objectives.
  • Support supplier development efforts focused on lead time reduction, quality improvement, and cost optimization.
  • Participate in strategic sourcing and supplier partnership initiatives when needed.


Leadership & Continuous Improvement

  • Champion the ADMS Material Control Pillar and support lean manufacturing initiatives throughout the facility.
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts focused on inventory management, planning accuracy, material flow, and supply chain performance.
  • Establish and track key performance indicators including inventory turns, inventory accuracy, supplier delivery performance, and customer service metrics.
  • Develop, mentor, and lead a high-performing materials, warehouse, and planning team.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and operational excellence.


What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field. Equivalent experience will be considered.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in materials management, production planning, inventory control, supply chain, or manufacturing operations.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing environments involving fabrication, assembly, or sheet metal processing is strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of MRP/ERP systems, inventory management principles, and production scheduling.
  • Experience leading warehouse, logistics, planning, or materials teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional leadership capabilities.
  • Preferred certifications include APICS CPIM, CSCP, CLTD, or other related supply chain certifications.
