Full Job Description

The Master Planner/Scheduler demonstrates strong operational leadership in managing and prioritizing the production backlog and schedules for the assigned product line. The incumbent is responsible for driving improvements in planning processes, ensuring accurate lead times, and enabling on-time delivery by effectively managing material and operational transaction flow and execution. This role has the authority to review and approve quotes and acknowledge orders based on current floor demand and capacity. The Master Planner collaborates cross-functionally to synchronize customer requirements with production capabilities and leads initiatives to optimize scheduling and resource utilization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Own and manage the production backlog, continuously prioritizing work across multiple processing areas and buildings to meet or exceed on-time delivery targets (90% or higher) through these actions:

  • Schedule and prioritize materials and operations to enable timely completion of production jobs, balancing capacity and demand.

  • Support the Inquiry-to-Order (ITO) function by reviewing and approving quotes and order acknowledgments based on real-time production floor status and material availability.

  • Develop and implement new planning methodologies and tools to improve lead time accuracy and operational efficiency.

  • Maintain lot traceability and accuracy within ERP systems on work orders and inventory transactions; review shipping documentation and verify test results in collaboration with engineering.

  • Coordinate and resolve logistics and scheduling issues between buildings, operations, and departments, providing strong communication and collaboration to solve complex problems.

  • Utilize business forecasts and transparent data to synchronize customer requirements with material demand and work order execution.

  • Monitor and report on product line capacity, capabilities, and key performance indicators related to backlog status, schedule adherence, and delivery performance.

  • Conduct thorough analyses of manufacturing processes to identify performance metrics, bottlenecks, and areas for improvement. Develop and implement strategies to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve product quality using Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles.

  • Lead continuous improvement activities focused on planning and scheduling processes, resource allocation, and cost targets.

  • Contribute to and lead plant-wide initiatives as requested, influencing decision-making within product line and project teams.

  • Provide leadership and guidance to production planners and schedulers, ensuring consistent application of best practices and process controls. Drive ERP utilization across the plant. 

Quantitative Data

Lead product line planning and supply chain execution within factory operations for product line of $10M+ annual revenue and 100-200 order lines per month. Drive on time delivery for repeat orders at 90% or higher and enable prototype projects to complete in a timely fashion per development timelines. Must be able to manage multiple projects and material flow for 3-6 major processing areas and between 1-3 buildings.  

Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Requires prior experience coordinating and leading production within MRP/ERP systems as well as offline tracking tools in a manufacturing environment.

  • Bachelors degree required in Manufacturing Engineer, Operations Management, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, Logistics or similar field.

  • Minimum of 10 years of related experience in production planning and scheduling within a manufacturing environment.

  • Proven ability to manage complex backlogs and prioritize production schedules to meet on-time delivery metrics.

  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems and offline tracking tools; proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.

  • Strong operational focus with demonstrated ability to make real-time decisions impacting production flow and customer commitments.

  • Experience reviewing and approving quotes and order acknowledgments based on floor demand and capacity.

  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret manufacturing processes.

  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, problem-solving, and analytical skills.

  • Ability to navigate Microsoft Office tools efficiently and communicate status and issues effectively within team and to management.

Desired skills:

  • Strong knowledge of ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle), advanced Excel skills, and understanding of manufacturing processes are important.

  • Green Belt certification is a plus.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret manufacturing processes.

Written Communication:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to clearly communicate status and issues within teams and to the leadership.

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. 

  • Good understanding of Workplace Safety Awareness.

Salary: $133,000- $148,000 per year

*The salary range listed is a guide for this position and may vary depending on experience, education, geographic location, and other qualifications. The final offer will be determined based on the candidate's individual merits and the company's compensation policies.
