Role Summary

The Market Development Leader holds overall responsibility for leadership and management of business development efforts for the One Water Service Line within the civil business unit. This includes development, implementation, and administration of business development strategies and objectives to achieve the goals of the civil program. Market Development Leader administers business development strategies and directives amongst the personnel within the civil program to implement a consistent vision supported by the business unit business plans to meet growth and profit goals and enhance the firm's reputation. Market Development Leader may also serve as a Client Relationship Manager for existing and targeted clients for high-profile opportunities across other markets including existing and emerging geographies.

What You'll Do

  • Lead market strategy, client development, and growth planning for SSR's Water practice.
  • Partner with the Business Unit Director and market leaders to establish annual growth, profitability, and booking goals
  • Develop and coordinate strategies for targeted market sectors, geographies, and new service line opportunities
  • Work with principal engineers, client relationship managers, and project managers to build short-term and long-term Water market plans
  • Coordinate with marketing, accounting, human resources, and operations partners to support efficient business development activity
  • Support proposal efforts, interview preparation, client events, conference participation, and publication opportunities
  • Guide senior staff in building existing client relationships and pursuing strategic opportunities
  • Drive consistent use of Cosential to track opportunities, BDRs, client intelligence, and long-term pipeline activity
  • Coordinate a zipper approach for larger clients, including regular touch points across multiple relationship levels
  • Promote SSR's brand through professional societies, community involvement, conferences, presentations, and industry engagement
  • Align SSR services with client needs and identify where SSR can support future goals with new or expanded services
  • Mentor project managers and senior leaders on opportunity response strategy and client relationship execution


Who We're Looking For

Minimum Requirements:

  • An expert in the discipline(s) of his/her expertise with a minimum of 10 years applicable project/client management experience
  • A strong familiarity with the RFP process accustomed to the market with a minimum of 3 years of active involvement in pursuing competitive and noncompetitive opportunities.
  • Bachelor's degree in one of the major technical disciplines practiced by the firm OR applicable experience
  • Professional Engineer Licensure required
  • Demonstrated, consistent ability in managing client relationships for contracts of small to large scope and complexity


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, project financial activities, contracts, resource allocation, and business practices
  • Strong understanding of engineering theories, methodologies, project approach, and management practices
  • Demonstrated business acumen with awareness of market trends, competition, and growth strategies
  • Exceptional presentation, technical writing, communication, and relationship management skills
  • Ability to organize resources, delegate effectively, and lead teams toward shared goals
  • Experience supporting professional society involvement, conferences, client events, and industry visibility
  • Ability to collaborate across internal business unit leadership and corporate services teams
