Full Job Description
As a Manager, Software Quality Assurance, this role contributes to Starbucks success by ensuring and certifying appropriate software development quality is met by defining and instituting software quality assurance measures, processes and controls. As a manager of software quality assurance, you will provide leadership over testing and quality assurance services for information technology systems development projects, as well as on-going application sustainment support activities. In this role you will provide direction for software quality assurance professionals responsible for software testing ensuring that software quality acceptance criteria and production release timeframes are met while delivering reliable and innovative technology solutions for our business This role leads the implementation of products and services, technologies and capabilities for the software quality assurance functions while providing training and education for both partners and contractors supporting business critical applications and systems.

As a Manager, Software Quality Assurance, you will...

  • Leadership - Setting goals for the work group, developing organizational capability, and modeling how we work together:
    • Identifies and communicates key responsibilities and practices to ensure the immediate team of 4 direct reports promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results
    • Supports the implementation of company programs to ensure the success of the Company.
    • Works with business and information technology leaders to properly set priorities, to manage incidents and escalations, and to predict and resolve problems that may occur. Initiates corrective actions and preventative measures.
    • Establishes test priorities and coordinates test activities ensuring deadlines are met, and business requirements and objectives are satisfied.
    • Negotiates business commitments and resource requirements. Works with business and technology leadership to evaluate performance of software quality assurance and ensure knowledge of and satisfaction of support and services delivery.
    • Functions as a consultant regarding software quality assurance products and services provided by suppliers and vendors. Selects, negotiates, and manages software products and services, as well as professional contract resources in order to meet demands.
  • Planning and Execution - Developing strategic and operational plans for the work group, managing execution, and measuring results:
    • Prepares, communicates and educates client groups and team on changes in policies and practices within the organization
    • Plans and manages business unit and department processes and practices to ensure that programs are aligned with company business goals and objectives.
    • Experience developing and implementing strategic plans and roadmaps for initiatives promoting Quality Management and Governance, Quality Control and Test Management, Functional and Technical Competency, Release and Deployment Management.
    • Experience with planning, organizing and executing multiple, simultaneous quality assurance test initiatives across multiple project portfolios and continuous sustainment support.
    • Assists with estimation, business requirements development, project scheduling, planning and prioritization by collaborating with global technology change management, service and delivery teams.
    • Leads and participates as a project team member in all phases of software development projects, including pre-initiation, initiation, definition, specification, development and testing.
    • Promotes advancements in technology capabilities through strategic planning initiatives. Develops technology plans and roadmaps for specific technical and functional areas, including resource utilization, capacity, budgets and capabilities.
    • Prepares, communicates and educates client groups and teams on changes in policies and practices within the organization.
  • Business Requirements - Providing functional expertise and executing functional responsibilities:
    • Plans and manages technology processes and practices to ensure that programs are aligned with company business goals and objectives. Responsible for budget management of department and project cost centers.
    • Develops strategic and operational plans for the work group, manages execution, and measures results.
    • Develops technology plans including resource utilization, capacity, budgets and capabilities. Manages the allocation of resources to both development projects and sustainment services.
    • Prepares, communicates and educates client groups and teams on changes in policies and practices within the organization.
  • Partner Development & Team Building - Providing partners with coaching, feedback, and developmental opportunities and building effective teams:
    • Challenges and inspires team members to achieve business results.
    • Conducts and ensures the completion of performance reviews.
    • Ensures partners adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements.
    • Oversees training and development of partners directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions.
    • Provides coaching, direction and leadership support to team members in order to achieve partners, business and customer results.
    • Exhibits collaboration and facilitation skills on project and sustainment initiatives by interacting with project managers, business and functional analysts, architects and developers, technical and operations teams.
    • Demonstrates track record as an educator and mentor with providing quality assurance leadership for software quality assurance professionals.
    • Leads software quality assurance team in developing new services, processes, tools and technology capabilities. Inspires innovation and operational excellence.
    • Provides professional development opportunities promoting functional and technical expertise, developing new services and technology capabilities.

We'd love to hear from people with:
  • Experience in software development and quality assurance testing (9 yrs+)
  • Experience instituting test process, practices, methods, and tools including test automation and performance test capabilities (9 yrs+)
  • Managing teams of Software Quality Assurance professionals including test analysts and test engineers both onsite and offshore (9 yrs+)
  • Financial and budget management, sourcing and procurement, vendor and contract management (9 yrs+)
  • Bachelor's degree with coursework in Computer Science, Information Systems, Informatics, or related field or degree equivalent; and/or work experience in Software Development Quality Assurance (9 yrs+)

*If you are working in CA, CO, IL, LA, ME, MA, NE, ND or RI, you will accrue vacation up to a maximum of 120 hours (190 in CA) for roles below director and 200 hours (316 in CA) for roles at director or above. For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
