Job DescriptionThe Corporate Functions Governance & Control (CFG&C) team within ESS drives risk governance and control management for several business units including ESS; Corporate Affairs & Communications; Colleague Experience Group; General Counsel's Organization; Enterprise Strategy; and American Express National Bank Headquarters (Corporate Functions). CFG&C enables risk governance and control management through a structure that governs, identifies, assesses, manages and reports on enterprise, operational and compliance risks.
CFG&C is looking for a
Manager, Regulatory Advisory & Practices, that will provide strategic compliance adherence governance, regulatory advisory support, and stakeholder engagement to ensure that each Corporate Functions business unit manages and mitigates regulatory risks in all jurisdictions in which it operates.
ResponsibilitiesThe Key Responsibilities are as follows:- Drive implementation of policy and regulatory requirements applicable to the business.
- Establish and maintain governance processes supporting regulatory compliance, risk management, and adherence to enterprise policies.
- Provide business specific compliance expertise, particularly in relation to identifying where compliance and regulatory risk is present in business process and controls.
- Support regulatory interpretation activities in partnership with legal, compliance and subject matter experts.
- Develop and maintain a working knowledge of laws, rules and regulations (LRRs) and policies applicable to the Corporate Functions business units to ensure business processes comply with regulatory requirements and expectations.
- Assist with the Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) process inclusive of risk assessments, applicable LRR tagging, and control design activities.
- Responsible for compliance metrics tracking and reporting for the Corporate Functions business units.
- Partner with the CFG&C Regulatory Change and Inventory Management (RCIM) manager to support prioritization, impact assessment, and implementation activities associated with regulatory change.
- Assist with issue management and control design activities led by Governance & Control, advising on applicable LRRs and compliance risk mitigation elements
- Advise leaders on areas of emerging risk, thematic compliance trends, and approaches to improve necessary controls and practices as appropriate
- Engage effectively with legal, risk and compliance stakeholders across the enterprise such as General Counsel's Organization, Line of Business Compliance Officers, Legal Entity or Country Compliance Officers, Subject Matter Regulatory Experts (such as Privacy and Financial Crimes), and Compliance Program teams.
- Additional responsibilities based on team needs.
Qualifications- 4+ years of experience with compliance, legal, or regulatory advisory roles within the financial services industry.
- Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying regulatory requirements and advising business stakeholders on compliance risk and controls.
- Prior credit card or financial industry experience.
- Strong relationship and leadership skills with proven ability to communicate and collaborate effectively at all levels of the organization.
- Understanding of the three lines of defense model and ability to operate effectively in a first-line regulatory and compliance function.
- Excellent written, verbal, research, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple work streams, manage deadlines, and manage priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in ambiguous or evolving environments ("white space"), including standing up new frameworks, governance processes, and compliance programs.
- Demonstrated ability to make decisions independently, work well under pressure, act proactively, and adapt easily to frequent change.
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree (such as J.D.), compliance certifications (such as CRCM or CAMS) or similar professional certifications preferred.
