SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Responsible for overall performance and work atmosphere of the purchasing team. Manage supplier relations and performance. Exert significant influence on the overall goals, objectives, and financial performance at FMI. Exert significant influence on department and company materials goals and objectives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:- Develop continual improvement in department skills and performance through employee development.
- Manage to ISO/LEAN concepts, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain and improve external supply chain to provide cost effective, on-time deliveries.
- Develop initial contacts, parameters, and financial expectations to engage in negotiations to introduce supplier "shared risk" partnerships.
- Organize and conduct periodic supplier symposiums.
- Provide employees with instructions, guidelines, performance expectations, and career guidance.
- Review proposals, negotiate pricing and create vendor candidate short lists during new vendor selection.
- Develop financial check and balance procedures to ensure purchase order to invoicing accuracy and correlation.
- Resolve complex financial issues in the supply chain and maintain financial reporting and cost saving strategies.
- Interact routinely with senior internal and external personnel on significant matters and present department performance reports to senior management.
- Implement the Company's environmental, health and safety programs in all departments/units within their respective operations.
- Basic knowledge of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001) and Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001), as applicable.
- Comply with applicable environmental, health and safety laws and regulations, Company policy and accepted safe work practices.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:- Bachelor's degree (BA) from four-year college or university; or five to seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience to include a minimum of 5 years direct, hands-on experience in procurement.
- Familiar with establishing internet/web-based procurement program and familiar with state-of-the-art supply chain methodologies.
- In-depth knowledge of various ERP/Synchronous materials management systems.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, including but not limited to Vlookup, Index, Match, PivotTable, PivotChart, working with external data sources, and live data linkage with other Microsoft Office applications. Experience in custom functions and VBA is preferred.
- Ability to provide research white papers pertaining to the global supply chain conditions which may affect FMI business.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, suppliers, and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of suppliers or employees of organization.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common financial reports.
- Ability to solve practical problems, collect data and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to travel 10%.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS:- APICS membership.
- Other professional association memberships in fields relating to machining, manufacturing, and contract outsource suppliers.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS WHILE PERFORMING THE JOB:- Sit and stand for extended periods of time.
- Lifting and/or moving items up to 30 pounds.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT OF THE JOB:- Normal Office Environment.
- The employee will be required to use personal protective equipment (PPE) to prevent exposure to hazardous materials commonly used in a manufacturing environment (i.e., safety glasses and shoes, gloves, ear plugs/covers, mask, cleanroom suit).
