SUMMARY

The Manager of Lean will develop Mortenson's Kaizen-based continuous improvement approach, including applicable tools and techniques, for Mortenson's diverse types of work and work environments (e.g. General Contractor, Self-Perform, Business Services, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, etc.). You will build Group capabilities to understand and consistently and effectively apply this Mortenson continuous improvement approach and support Group Leaders in building a continuous improvement culture and improving business outcomes.

This role requires the ability to travel up to 75% (U.S. based travel).

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create strong partnerships to establish trust and gain confidence in lean approaches.
    • Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels, with a focus on Group Leaders and continuing to Group Lean resources, project leaders, field leaders, and the Craft workforce.
    • Support leaders to establish the right focus and effort on the right things to build culture and drive business outcomes.
  • Apply and refine Mortenson's Kaizen-based continuous improvement approach.
    • Create pull from Group and Project Leaders and advocate for the thoughtful application of the approach with a dual focus on developing capability and improving outcomes.
    • Partner with Group Leaders and project teams to test, apply and improve the Mortenson continuous improvement approach.
    • Use the approach effectively in all work environments. Serve as a steward of the continuous improvement approach.
    • Facilitate effective use of appropriate tools in line with the Mortenson continuous improvement approach. Develop, refine and advance the use of tools.
    • Maintain consistency and effectiveness of the approach by constantly assessing and improving.
  • Coach and develop key individuals to create capability and a culture of continuous improvement within their Groups.
    • Lead by example with ongoing development of your own technical and leadership capabilities to coach and develop others in the application of Mortenson's continuous improvement approach.
    • Coach, advise and partner with Group Lean resources (where applicable) and group leaders to propose and deliver the right continuous improvement activities to engage and build people while improving business outcomes.
    • Engage group leaders to be personally involved in continuous improvement activities.
    • Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels - starting with Group Leaders and Group Lean professionals.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Construction Management, Industrial Engineering, or a related degree, or equivalent combination of education and technical/field experience demonstrated over multiple years of related work experience
  • Minimum of fifteen years' construction or manufacturing experience
  • Minimum of ten years' experience in a continuous improvement or other operational functional role (e.g. Quality, Safety, Planning, Process Excellence)
  • Experience facilitating Kaizen
  • Expert understand of Kaizen and how to apply it
  • Humble learner; strong sense of curiosity and optimism
  • Proactive self-starter with a growth mindset
  • Excellent reliability and follow through on commitments
  • Excellent trainer and facilitator
  • Strong ability to coach and mentor Group and Project Leaders on how to engage their teams in continuous improvement. Strong ability to coach and mentor Lean professionals in their roles.
  • Ability to influence through relationship building at group and project leader level
  • Effectively work with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels
  • Active listening skills and effective communication including an openness to diverse input and feedback
  • Ability to travel a up to 75% to diverse locations in the continental U.S.

The base pay range for this role is $137,000 - $205,600. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL - 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR - 10%, Washington, D.C. - 12.5%). This position is eligible for Mortenson's incentive plan.

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.
