The Opportunity The Manager, Marketing and Promotion leads the marketing and promotion strategy for TMU Athletics and Recreation, building awareness, engagement, and participation across varsity sport and recreation programs.
This role develops and delivers innovative, results-driven marketing initiatives, oversees campaigns, social media, sponsorships, events, communications, and community outreach. The Manager leads the stewardship of the department's brand across digital and traditional channels for both TMU Bold and recreational programs. As a key marketing partner to internal stakeholders, the Manager drives impactful initiatives that strengthen the department's profile and increase attendance and participation.
Key responsibilities:
- Leads marketing strategy and planning for Athletics and Recreation, developing and executing annual marketing and promotional plans that drive brand engagement, fan attendance, and participation in recreation programs.
- Leads marketing campaigns and creative projects, overseeing the development of promotional materials and collaborating with internal teams, Marketing and Creative Services, and external vendors to deliver high-quality work on time and within budget.
- Drives audience and market engagement by day-of support and leadership, conducting research, analyzing trends and user needs, and translating insights into strategic positioning, storytelling, marketing opportunities, and game-day activations.
- Leads and develops the marketing and communications team, providing direction, in-event leadership, coaching, performance management, and professional development while fostering a creative, collaborative, and inclusive team environment.
- Manages the Athletics & Recreation brand across digital, print, social media, events, and other channels, ensuring consistent brand standards, messaging, and audience engagement as well as enhanced recognition within the university sport and recreation landscape.

- Post-secondary degree or comparable education in Business, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
Five (5) years of progressive experience in marketing, communications, public relations, advertising, brand management, sponsorship, or a related field, preferably within a complex or matrixed organization, with a focus on sport and recreation. - Demonstrated experience developing and executing integrated marketing and promotional strategies and campaigns, including brand management, digital and social media, creative content, events, and audience engagement, with a focus on sport and recreation.
- Demonstrated leadership experience, including both project and professional staff management across multiple areas of expertise supervising, developing, and providing direction to staff, managing multiple projects, and balancing competing priorities and deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, project management, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence, negotiate, synthesize complex information, and build effective relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
- Knowledge of design and print processes, techniques, and limitations, with the ability to collaborate effectively with creative teams and external vendors.
- Experience in sports, recreation, higher education, or a similarly public-facing environment, including knowledge of audience engagement, sponsorships, brand activations, and event marketing, is considered an asset.
